Download: Stock Rooted Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) ROM Update GPA14

It's about that time again isn't it? Perhaps the most important aspects of this updated build are the FRG83G proprietaries and the adjustments made to the way Gingerbread manages RAM. As mentioned in a previous post, "Unfortunately not every file on the Droid can be built from source. Because of this, "proprietary" files are used."

Gingerbread was never intended to run on devices with less then 256MB of RAM, such as the Droid. This is made evident by the way applications will randomly close or stop syncing, they are being "kicked out" of memory. For example, on previous Gingerbread builds (not only including mine), if a user had music playing in the background and later opened a few more apps, the music would stop playing. Issues such as these are now resolved due to the adjustments I have made. Now user can multitask as much as they would expect an Android device to be able to. As an added bonus, you can expect to see alot less homescreen redraws.

One of my favorite things about Nexus devices is that they always receive the latest updates, including apps. More often then not, when an app is updated on this device, it is not available in the Market yet. This gives rooted users an opportunity to run the latest versions before others even get news of it. In GPA14 you will find the latest Street View and Google Search apps not available in the Market yet. When you download all of the Google apps from the Market, be sure to not download Street View and Google Search because you will overwrite the new version with the "old" Market version.

Other changes including updates and bug fixes are included in this release so be sure to check out the changelog for full details.

Further installation details after the jump...
No Market applications are included in this ROM. Once you install this ROM you will need to download the following: YouTube, Gmail, Voice Search, Maps, Flash Player, Talkback, Kickback, and Soundback.

Once Gmail is installed, allow it to auto sync by changing the following setting: Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync > example@gmail.com > Sync Gmail

For best results I recommend the following:
1) Wipe data and cache (more than once) before installing (unless already on a GPA build)
2) Do not restore data using applications such as Titanium backup, etc (manualy restore!)
3) Do not modify the build in any way (removing apps, themeing, etc)
4) Run only the latest baseband available (C_01.43.01P)

If you are already on a GPA build, there is no need to wipe (unless you are experiencing issues). If you have no sound, a simple reboot or two is needed to restore it (only need to do this once, I have not experienced this myself).

  1. Thanks, Of course I will give it a try.
I moved from GPA12 to FRG83G last week.

  2. So just to be clear, we need to downgrade to FR83G then back to GPA14?

    ReplyDelete
  3. @Anonymous, what? no. if you are rooted you need to wipe data and cache and install GPA14

    ReplyDelete
  4. Peter, do I need to wipe anything if I'm already on GPA13?

    ReplyDelete
  5. "2) Do not restore data using applications such as Titanium backup, etc (manualy restore!)"

How do you manually restore? All I have ever done is used Titanium but I would like some of my data in certain apps restored.

A link would be sufficient. I'm sure it gets involved.

    ReplyDelete
  6. @Anonymous, I said that because alot of times restoring data can cause issues. You may use any program you wish but just be warned that it might cause problems. If that happens I recommend wiping data and cache and installing everything from the market rather than restoring.

  7. Will your previous 600 MHz low voltage kernel work as intended with this new version or will an update for that be needed?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Peter what kenel is in this package? Can we still use your 0.1 kernels with this version?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Any chance you wanna release a BB version of this?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would also like to know if wiping data/cache is necessary coming from your GPA13. Some people say Cache should be wiped before any updates, is it okay to not wipe it?

    Thanks man, you're the best!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks Pete! Just to be clear... I don't need to wipe data & cache if coming from GPA13, right?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks! Love the stock Gingerbread!

    ReplyDelete
  13. "Thanks Pete! Just to be clear... I don't need to wipe data & cache if coming from GPA13, right?"

I didn't clear data and it booted right up. (From GPA13 to GPA14)

  14. @Anonymous I put GPA14 over GPA13 without wiping and no problems. Also I put Pete's LV 1.1 Kernal on GPA14 and it rocks..

  15. You are the Man! I really appreciate all the hard work for our old droids nothing on the market right now is compelling me to upgrade because of you

  16. So I was planning on rooting my droid1 for the first time (don't know why I waited). The 2.2.2 FRG83G was pushed to my phone the day before I was planning to root. Then I started reading that I couldn't root the 2.2.2...

I've heard you're super fast at coming up with roots, what is my best course of action at this point??

    'Scuse the Noob!

    ReplyDelete
  17. @John, first of all, thank you for choosing my work. To root use this: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html

  22. Was using Sorcery. want to replace with this, Noob, using RZRec. Can I go right to GPA14?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pete, using GPA13 after being on BB forever, great work. Going to try GPA14 now.

Is there a reason why you're not putting these up in ROM Manager?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Peter, first thanks for keeping it fun for the droid1. In a few months I will be due for an upgrade, I am curious if you have any thoughts on upcoming models...TY!

  25. You sir are, quite simply, awesome!

  26. 4) Run only the latest baseband available (C_01.43.01P)

Sorry, but what does that mean? Do i need to download and install the baseband?

What kernel do you recommend? lv600?

    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous- it doesnt mean anything for you. dont worry about the baseband. jus flash the rom like all the other gpas. Your phone will be butter smooth. Im running the kernel that came with gpa14 and its really great but all of petes lv kernels are good. im gonna flash 1.1 lv in a min to get to warp speeds.

    ReplyDelete
  28. will baseband 2.15.00.11.19 work??

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous- jus so you know i flashed the 1.1ghz and i have it over clocked to 800mhz and my phone is so smooth. ill overclock to 1.1 when im doing serious multitasking but 800 is great for jus normal operation.

    ReplyDelete
  30. any chance you will be releasing a bugless beast version soon. im dying to try gingerbread but im waiting for a BB version

    ReplyDelete
  31. wow major update...phone is running really smooth right now with the stock kernel...bout to put the 1.25 lv on!

    i love you pete..seriously

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks for yet another GPA, Pete. My only regret when I upgrade my phone in a few weeks is that I will not be running your builds anymore. Now off to backup GPA13 and flash on GPA14. :)

  34. Pete,

    AWESOME build.

Just sent you a $10 donation which is the least I can do. You've breathed new life into my OG Droid. Keep up the good work bud. Follow your dreams even if other people say you're a nerd. After all, we'll be billionaires one day.

  37. I rooted my phone for the very first time with GPA13 Friday and then again with GPA14 tonight. Very nice, especially running at 1GHz. I managed to get DSP Manager working by Replacing the libaudiopolicy.so with the one from http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/issues/detail?id=386 and installed DSP Manager from here https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_DSPManager. Runs great and no issues with stability.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I once tried updating the baseband file on my phone. I screwed something up, and I had to call Verizon to have them help me reprogram it. Does anyone have a link to a good how-to for updating baseband?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Pete, you deserve a salary from Motorola for all of your hard work in developing, testing and releasing a stable build for a device that they gave up on last year. Kudos to you sir, you have my thanks and my donation yet again. Rooted/ running GPA13 and flashing GPA14 as I type.

    Sincerely,
    Dave Martinez

  40. I had GPA13 installed with the LV 1.0Ghz kernel, and all I did was download and install GPA14 and then reinstall the LV 1.0Ghz kernel. That's it. No wiping cache or reinstalling anything. I don't know if I have the latest installed apps that Peter states, but I really don't care since they are low use apps for me.

The screen does update a lot quick, eliminating a minor annoyance for me. The only other issue I had was that the 3G would go off line every now and then, however, time will only tell. Awesome work!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Amazing work Peter!
My Droid works as well now as it did on day one, better than any other rom/kernal I had run in the past.

I also did a straight update to GPA14 from GPA13 without wiping anything.

    Hot damn man! Good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow... just wow. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, this release is incredible! Thanks peter!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for fixing the Programming Menu. BTW Street View works great! I was able to restore apps and app-data with Titanium Backup without issues but I did the process very cautiously. All my contact, SMS history, and lots of other settings were restored via Google's cloud and lookout mobile security.

  46. Just when I was starting to get comfortable (read: bored) with my present build. Running GPA13 with PA's 1.0 GHz Kernel, augmented with Launcher Pro and Tasker. So far best build ever... preparing to make it even better with GPA14. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Tried it this morning over GPA 12. Didn't wipe data or cache and it all seems to be working great. I didn't have to restore anything but am wondering if I now have the latest Market etc without having to re download them? I'm a Noob so I hope this isn't a dumb question. Thanks for all the great stuff you develop!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Pete what will be your next phone?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Pete,
Fantastic work yet again! I updated to GPA14, and it seems to have fixed the corporate exchange sync issues that I had in GPA12-13. One thing I did notice, is that my phone doesn't appear in the online market anymore as a listed device. I tried re-syncing my google account and everything... Not sure if it's due to the version number or just my scenario. Has anyone else experienced this?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm loving this Gingerbread, my phone has never run better. I can upgrade in October and even with the dual-cores coming out, I don't know if I'm ready to switch, my OG is still running strong thanks to you. Awesome! Can't thank you enough for what you're doing!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Pete! Thanks for all the awesomeness of GB for the OG DROID!

Any chance of a BB release anytime soon? Would love to see your toolbox, and the amazing tweaks of BB for GB.

  52. I can't find street view...am I missing something?

    ReplyDelete
  53. All you people praising him better be throwing the guy a little donation so he can get a couple beers at least, this stuff is GOLDEN.

Great stuff Peter. Now thanks to you, I can take my almost 2 year old Droid and hold out for much longer for a dual core phone...

    ReplyDelete
  54. I take it back - sort of: Street View 1.7.0.2 is listed in the Manage Applications, under All section - but it doesn't show up in my apps list from the home screen. Is this normal?

BTW - Great work, I am big fan. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I've run each of the GPA release and this is the first one that runs really smooth on my Droid. I would always see a delay when going back to the home screen and building the app list took forever but with this release it is so much quicker than before. Thanks Peter!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Installed over GPA12 did 2 full wipes first. Did not wipe the Dalvik... Was this build supposed to have Maps/Street view? I don't see them in the image?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Pete you just keep on going!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just flashed the GPA14 ROM on an OG Droid that was running GPA13 and Launcher Pro, I have had trouble in the past with stuff not syncing correctly if I did not do a wipe first, but this time I tried a little trick that use to work and that is to drag all widgets and app short cuts to the trash, do not uninstall, just get them off the home screens, then pull the battery. Reboot into recovery and flash the GPA14 ROM and then the 1.1Ghz kernel, reboot and I had zero problems. Thanks Pete as usual your the man and GO KIGHTS!

  59. This is exactly how OG Droid should run. It's truly a privilege to use your work Pete. I love my phone!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. GPA14 is the best yet! It runs so smooth and I think the memory management adjustments you made are working. I was constantly getting FCs on Words with Friends before this build and now (knock on wood) it's been working great. My wife is happy I'm not constantly complaining I have to log back in to play a word. Thanks for all your hard work Pete and keeping the D1 in the game! You're the best!

  61. Hi Pete,

Well Done. GPA14 is another work of Art!

GPA14 seems to have solved long home screen icon painting and it appears to be running great.

I've been running slaher even with 13.

    I see GPA14 puts .6GHz in place...

Any reason to push the phone to one of the 1.x LV?

    Anyhow, Well Done!

Keep it up and be sure to let us know what your next phone will be as I'll along for the journey as well.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  62. Pete!

This is some great stuff. I tried a couple other Mods (Cyanogenmod) But have come back to you. You have the most stable mods I've seen. Ever. Keep up the good work.

  63. How to I change basebands? I'm currently on C_01.3E.01P

    ReplyDelete
  64. Running GPA14 for a day now. Cured all the Home Screen lag problems!! As usual, great work!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. So, just to be clear...I'm a little new at this...do I also have to update with a baseband or can I simply flash the ROM?

    ReplyDelete
  66. As just another faceless Droid user out there who likes to use his phone to its fullest potential, I want to say "Thank you."

I hope my small donation will help to keep you continuing your work.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Pete,

Best GB ROM I've tried. Running with Chevy 1.2 med kernal. Have some issues syncing accounts and reloading lanucher pro widgets. Less probs with this than other GB ROMs however. I predict this will be more stable than CM stable release.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Auto rotate home screen? Is this possible? My physical keyboard stopped working correctly, so I have the phone sealed shut. Works great, on par with a nexus one, but adding auto rotate would make this old droid worth keeping until the end of my cycle with big v.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Peter peter comment eater, is it possible to add auto rotate to the home screen? These ROMantics of yours have added a year to the life of my droidy, even though my physical keyboard is falling right the frak off - so I taped the durn phone shut! Adding autorotate would just makd it that much schweeter.

Tried adw et al, but I didn't like them and they slowed my phone down.

    ReplyDelete
  70. There's too many good things to say about this rom. but one thing I wish is that the battery life was better.....OH WAIT ITS THE BEST IT'S EVER BEEN!!!!! thank you Peter.

    ReplyDelete
  71. please excuse the late pass. Pete: you inspired me to root my phone and this release is spawning my 1st comment. you sir are a genius. thanks for all your hard work. i know there are a lot of apps out there, but do you know what type of data would be better off not being restored? it took me awhile to get my handcent settings to how i want them and i'd like to avoid doing that again. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Paul,

I would highly recommend using one of Mr. Alfonso's kernels to push the phone to at least 1.0Ghz. The battery life is pretty much just the same and there is a noticeably difference on using it. It makes it much snappier and smoother.

    Mr. Alfonso,

Great work on this ROM. I've running this on your 1.25Ghz kernel (which for whatever reason was unstable on GPA13 for me, but fine on GPA14). And I must say I prefer my Droid over my friend's MyTouch G4 even though G4's hardware is better. Thank you for your work.

    ReplyDelete
  73. GPA14 working great on a CDMA Milestone A854. Thanks as always!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous about the Auto-rotate feature,

Try LauncherPro, many consider it the best home launcher on the android market. There's a free version too. If you go into Perferences it allows you to auto-rotate.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Amazing. Upgraded from gpa13 with no problems . Another donation on the way

    ReplyDelete
  76. I had a fine time upgrading to GPA14 as I said earlier. Had to reload all apps though. I thought that Market did that automatically the last time. No worries there since it gave me time for housecleaning.
GPA14 is fantastic. Redraw delays are gone. Response is snappy - especially with your lv 1.0 GHz kernel. I had the same thought as many other... this has me wondering if I need to bother to upgrade in the fall.
Great job! Will hit the donate button.

    ReplyDelete
  77. How do we install the custom ROM? I rooted, now what do I do? I put the GB folder in my nandroid folder on my SD and try to install, not luck... there has to be a tutorial out there somewhere but I'm finding no luck.. HELP

    ReplyDelete
  78. I gotta join in the praise... great work! I've been with you since GPA12 and each upgrade has been painless. This is easily the fastest, smoothest release you've had yet. Expect a donation soon. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  79. 15 hours off my charger. Yeah great release!

    ReplyDelete
  80. @Anonymous, If you're already rooted (per instructions previous in this thread) then do this:
    1. Plug in your USB and copy over the GPA14 zip to a folder in your SD card. (I use "/download" - For whatever reason, it wasn't selectable when I put it in the root of the card.) While you're at it, back up anything you care about, just in case. ;)
    2. Install "ROM Manager" from the Market. (free, but I bought the premium to support Koush)
    3. After you launch it, select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" (I forget the details, but after a few tense minutes you should be booted back in your regular phone.)
    4. Launch ROM Manager again. This time select "Reboot into Recovery" (There are some other tempting options to just install a mod directly, but these didn't work for me; recovery mode is simple enough anyway.)
    5. In recovery, vol+/-=up/down, camera=select, and power=back. Wipe the cache, and the user data, via the menus.
    6. Then choose install from SD card, and navigate to your zip file. Short installation should follow.
    7. Select reboot.
    8. Done. (Link your gmail account, reinstall your apps, etc.)
    9. Later, if you like, repeat steps 4-7 with Peter's 1GHz LV kernel zip for great justice!
    10. Make a donation to Peter (to join my $15) for being a complete Droid rockstar. :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thank you so much Pete! Gingerbread has definitely extended the life of my Droid. I appreciate your work, and will definitely donate more and continue to support you through your adventures! :)

  83. Needing a little friendly advice - tried to install GPA14 over GPA13 using Clockwork to no avail. Phone still runs great, however, operating on the GPA13 version without any update.

    What have I missed??

    ReplyDelete
  84. Disregard earlier statement - just re-flashed current clockwork and installed again over GPA13 and everything is good.

Thanks yet again for a great ROM, Pete!

    ReplyDelete
  85. One more question, I hope someone can answer?? I just flashed the 1.1 GHz kernel. Everything is running great but when I go to Set CPU the max speed I get is 600 even when I set it to 1000. Is the GPA .60 kernel the only one that works with GPA 14 or is my old beater phone not capable of cranking out any more speed? Thanks in advance for the help and thank you Peter for another masterpiece!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Thanks for your work Pete. I decided to take the plunge and get off Froyo and go to Gingerbread and installing GPA14 + 1.0GHzLV Kernel took all of 2 minutes to do...

    ReplyDelete
  87. You sir are amazing is it possible for you to build an app that automatically updates the phone to newer versions of gingerbread

  92. Loving the GPA14 Gingerbread goodness on my OG(old geezer) Droid. Thank you for all your hard work on these Peter. Super solid, super stable, and smooth as using silk to rub butter on a baby's butt. :) Now off to try a custom kernel for even more speed and find that donation button.

    ReplyDelete
  98. IIRC this is for the Droid OG, and is not compatible with milestone, even though they are essentially the same....

Thanks Pete. Any chance you going to get a Nook Color??? I know you got a Xoom, really would like to get a fully functional 3.0 Rom for NC, ive tried the preview, but just not stable enough, so im sitting on cm7. Wish G would release the aosp already.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I know what you can do Pete....get your GF a nook color, since you already have the Xoom. :)

    ReplyDelete
  100. I am now rocking the 1.1 ghz LV Kernel with GPA14. Sweeeeet!

    ReplyDelete
  101. You should see about getting this included in ROM Manager. It would help a lot to not have to plug in when I want the latest and greatest.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Okay Pete, I'm throwing out a request here. It seems that the MMS app works better than it ever has on my Droid, however it is missing the most important feature: black background. If you can make an update for this I will throw some Paypal your way for your time. As stupid as it sounds this is a deal breaker for me, as I may need to go back to BB 0.6 due to how much I use the text messaging app.

Other than that the combination of your kernels and the new ROM have solved every issue I've had with the phone, I absolute love how it's made my phone perform like it did back in the Android 2.0.1 days.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Been running GPA14 for about 3 days now and only had 1 lockup and restart (was watching a video and GPS, BT, and Wifi were all on in the car. I know, I know). I got stuck in a bootloop and had to remove the battery until the phone cooled down. I ditched LauncherPro in favor of Go Launcher until new version comes out. I tried Cyanogen, ProjectElite, and Sourcery ROMs and had nothing but problems (battery drains, random reboots 6-7X a day, bootloops, etc.). GPA14 is the most stable ROM yet! Great job Pete! Much appreciated! I'm sending you a donation also!

    ReplyDelete
  104. do we have the scripts on this one like we did on bugless beast? I want to use them, mainly turn off the in app adds..

    ReplyDelete
  105. Pete, thanks for the new build!

    Its very fluid.

    I have two questions tho.

First, Using terminal how do I set the percentage for compcache, then confirm that it is set correctly.

Second, Can I use bb 6.2.1 mms.apk? I tried to install using root explorer with the backup apk from bb....no luck. If it is possible, could you tell me how to do it?

    Thanks man! I can't wait for a GPA/BB cross!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Thank you Pete. Great work, you are an artist.

Looking forward to a BB release with the recent FRG83G proprietaries. I'll take Froyo or Gingerbread!

    ReplyDelete
  107. My OG is like a new phone from GPA10-14. Running 1.2ghz LV kernel and it scored above Droid X on quadrant! Pete, from one FLA boy to another, you d' man!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Love GPA14. I am running it with 1.25Ghz kernel.

How do I get the speech to text to work?

    ReplyDelete
  109. anybody know the difference in battery life between 1.1ghz and 1.25? it seems like it might be kinda harsh, but if not i def wanna go for it.

    ReplyDelete
  110. @Anonymous - Quote "You should see about getting this included in ROM Manager. It would help a lot to not have to plug in when I want the latest and greatest."

That's why dropbox is great! I just download the file on my pc, drop it into my dropbox folder, open up the app on my droid to download and reboot to recovery to flash!

  112. Four days and running great. Been using the 1.1 GZs kernel and it is smooth as silk. I see you posted it on ROM Manager today. (good move) I hope everyone gets a chance to use it before the old Droid 1's disappear. I donated 20 bucks to you yesterday and wish I could have done more! Like the Jerry Lewis telethon I hope everyone will match or better my donation!

Thanks Peter and have a great weekend.....

  113. Pete,
I love your stuff and I know this is supposed to be stock, buuuut, could you please make an option to have the notification screen widget bar? I just can't live without it.

  114. @Anon - "Sent donation last night. Nofat (non bloated) Gingerbread Rules. This is the reason I rooted my Droid (GPA 12 - 14+)THANK YOU"

I'm totally using "nonfat." I'm gonna just randomly ask someone if their android device is nonfat and get their reaction.

@Anon - You should see about getting this included in ROM Manager. It would help a lot to not have to plug in when I want the latest and greatest.

Try using dropbox! I just download the file on my pc, put it in my dropbox folder, and then use the app to downloaded to my droid and bam! flash!

  115. I just went from the latest version of BB to GPA 14, love it. One question I do have is where did the voice to text go and how do I get it back? Is there anyway to get it back?

  116. hey guys I am running GPA14 with Peter's 1.25 LV kernel...now is compcashe just in the stock kernel that comes with the rom or is it also in the 1.25 kernel as well? and another question do I manually have to turn it on? thanks guys! Long live the Droid 1!!! (thanks to pete lol)

  117. Wow, this is great! Fixed all other problems I was having with early ones. Phone is working better than it ever has!

  118. Newb question.... Where do I find a step by step howto to install this? I'm rooted and have clockworkmod already.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Ok, I was trying to update from GPA13 to 14 and I have the file downloaded and on my phone. But when I try to reboot into recovery mode nothing happens, it just sits there with the "M" logo for a while then it will restart itself and boot normal. I have ROM manager and have tried to reflash clockwork multiple times but still doesn't work. Any Ideas on how to get this thing to work? if not no biggie as GPA13 runs great for me, I woul just like to get the update.

  120. How come GPA isn't in ROM Manager???

  121. I'll definitely donate to this cause. Awesome stuff man, Thanks!

  123. Pete is awesome! I have had nothing but Petes stuff on my droid since January ish 2010 and couldn't be happier!

  124. One random thought, and I could be waaaay off base with my idea, but has anyone looked into using the other internal memory on the phone as back-up RAM? Kind of like a windows pc page file? I don't know if that is possible, or been tried before, or maybe the phone already utilizes that memory... but since they say unused RAM is wasted in Android systems, maybe it would speed things up a bit? I have heard of something like this for RAM-intensive games where you could make it use your sd card as surrogate RAM,basically, but that thrashes your SD card... Ill stop rambling, someone feel free to let me know if its not even remotely realistic....

  125. When GP15 is released or this goes to the BB project, Please add the option to use the REAL stock Android boot screen.

    ;)

  126. Awesome worked great the first time peter you are some kind of android god :)

  127. Where is everyone getting Pete's kernels from? I only use ROM manager to flash roms and when I downloaded GPA 14 I didn't see any options for kernels made by pete.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Right here!

    http://www.peteralfonso.com/2011/02/download-droid-lowvoltage-kernels-v01.html

    ReplyDelete
  129. Check Pete's previous posts for the one titled "Download: Droid Kernels V0.1"

You link should be in there for whatever speed you're looking for. Just download and flash it like you did GPA14. Then check the about section on your phone, only thing that will change is the listing for the kernel. If you have Set CPU installed, your overclock options will then reflect the speeds of the kernel you installed.

  130. If you are not familiar on how to root your phone, update a rom, use rom manager, boot into recovery, or unbrick your phone, etc. you should stay away from trying to update GPA and ask basic questions on usability vs. the rom itself. This ROM is great, my phone never ran smoother than this.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Pete, great work on this ROM. Tried using your first few versions and had varying levels of success. This release is solid though! I'm even using the included kernel and performance is excellent. Biggest improvement is the battery life! It is at least 30% better than when I was running CHARITY ROM v11.1 with your 1Ghz kernel. My apps didn't restore, but that was actually a good thing. I've only reinstalled my essential apps. Best my phone has run since I've had it!

    ReplyDelete
  132. I've never thanked you for your work and I've been using your roms for quite some time. THANKS PETE! I've barely had to tweak anything you've done to make it work... great work.

  133. When can we see this for captivate?

    ReplyDelete
  134. I was a total noob yesterday when I stumbled across your site trying to find out if my Droid would ever see Gingerbread. After reading this post, I spend the entire day reading, learning, and studying and by 11PM last night I had my phone rooted and this ROM installed.

This is beyond amazing. Without any of the typical exaggeration or hyperbole, this is by far the best my Droid has ever worked. Period. Motorola should be humbled by your achievement. It's quite frankly some of the best stuff I've seen. I echo the folks above - send Peter at least a $10 spot and buy him a pizza.

Please let us know what your next phone is when you upgrade, I am definitely going to stick with you! THANK YOU for all you do!

  136. Running this with the ultra low voltage 1.1 kernel at

    http://chevyno1.richstevenson.com/kernels-032411/

Next up is regluing my droids keyboard. If all goes well, I can flog another year out of this bad boy!

  137. For anyone having problems with ROM Manager, just make sure you re-flash your ClockWork Recovery or SP Recovery and then try to go into Recovery.

@Mattchenzo I'm no expert at this but I think SD memory is significantly slower than RAM.

  138. Droid 2 by chance?

  139. Peter your badass, end of story. Thanks for the work bro, love you and kid cudi.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Pete, First, Thanks for your great work. GPA14 works well with your 1.0Ghz LV kernel. Second, I thought my OG had a problem when it got very hot on three different evenings and I had to pull the battery to shut down (while using your 1.1Ghz LV). Changed back to your 1.0Ghz LV and had same problem. Finally figured out that a Lookout antivirus update was initiating a nightly backup that was looping. Turned off that option and all is good. You rock!

  141. WOW! Mr.Alfonso, I am much appreciative of your work. I've had my Droid1 since launch day and have been rooting it since the first month and I've never been let down. It seems indestructible, completely easy and intuitive to use..

That being said this GB upgrade is RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME! All the apps I ever had problems with now work! Ultimate Faves works Perfectly! So many other apps just fall into place due to the improvements made in GB. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I rooted mine and Three friends following the trail left there-in, flawless on all three! Thanks!

  142. Peter

Great ROM!! I have been looking everywhere for a simple GB rom that doesnt have all the extra fluff. Nice and clean. Great work.

2 questions... Would you by chance be willing to make a low voltage 800mhz kernel? You have a jump from 600 to 1 ghz. How do your voltages compare to other LV kernels? or ULVs?

Also, would you be willing to make any scripts for us gscript users that let's us change the governor? I'm not a fan of SetCPU so I use gscript for everything.

    Great work!!!

  143. Peter,

question about kernels and TUN support. Many people, including myself have been missing IPsec VPN support (Cisco) in the Android OS, and there is very little answer to this problem out there.

There is a product I see people working with called VPNC widget that I have heard of some success with, but, it require some things of the phone; the one thing I don't have, and others have asked about is:

    - TUN device in kernel (CONFIG_TUN=y)
    - advanced routing enabled in kernel (CONFIG_IP_ADVANCED_ROUTER=y)

I don't know anything about modifying kernels, knowing which have this and which do not, etc. It would appear that this is a kernel requirement, not necsssarily a ROM specific requirement (I know I am talking in circles :)).

Can you tell us if any of your Kernels (or others) support this and/or if this would be something you would consider enabling in your kernel(s)?

I have found apparent success wtih getting this configuration ina kernal, at: "http://forum.sdx-developers.com/moment-2-2-development/please-help!-need-2-2-kernel-with-tun-module-any-chance-can-get-compiled-in/"

Thanks for your thoughts on this and all of your time with this OS!

    -mark

  144. men pete i really want to install ur build on my OG Droid coz I know you always had the more stable ROM ( I was a fan of Bugless Beast for a long while) and I want to have gingerbread on my OG but every single rom I have tryed keeps closing apps or services too fast like you explain coz memory is not enough I am glad to hear you kind of solve that problem the only thing keeps me from going to GPA is the shortcut on the notification menu men CM had spoiled me with that and that feature have came really handy
is there a way you can add it to GPA?
if not your room is still great men don't get me wrong is just that I am spoiled already lol

  147. Peter, great ROM. Can I use this ROM and flash to Cricket Wireless? My plan at V is up soon and I have read that the Droid1 can flash to Cricket. Most posts talk about Cyanogen but your Roms are all Ive had and don't want to leave a great ROM.

  148. Hi, can someone point me to where i can do this step-by-step? Thanks. Vince

  149. Hi Peter, I am fairly new to flashing roms. Would I be able to use your stock 600 mhz low voltage kernel with another rom say something like liquid gingerbread 1.42? Thanks.

  150. ditto; hoping to see a new bugless beast with GB on it.

still running BB 0.5 and saw that 0.6 is out, but still froyo. hoping 0.7 is on the way? hoping to donate to you soon as well, my man! you've done a great job and I swear by your rom always!

  151. I followed some instructions on how to flash a custom ROM using ROM Manager from Android Police (http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/05/08/complete-guide-how-to-flash-a-custom-rom-to-your-android-phone-with-rom-manager-full-backup-restore/) but didn't see I needed to unplug my phone until is was too late. Now I'm stuck on the Motorola symbol. I'm using the original Droid but re-starts just bring me back to the symbol and holding the camera button and scroll down just brings me to the bootloader but I don't know what to do from there to restore my backup. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  154. Greetings Mr.Alfonso,

Been with you since the start, still running Droid 1. With my Extended battery thanks to the Droid2 release, and your GPA14, my fone is a freakish phenom. One draw back? No trillian support for GPA14. I know GPA15 is said to fix this, for the time being thou any bandaid to heal my 5$ wound with a non functional app? =(

  156. Switched to CM 7.0.2 and then to 7.0.3 w/ ChevyNo1 lv 1.25gHZ. Had to switch back to my backup of GPA14. Peter just does great work. GPA14 quite a bit more "Bugless" (see what I did there), less home screen redraws, more stable, etc.
