GPA15 Progress & Beta Testing

I know by now the fiends are itching for a new release, I just want to assure you your fix is coming soon. GPA15 squashes many bugs and is available for "preview" for those having withdrawals. These preview builds are known as "nightlies". As you can see I try to upload one every night, but at times I get too busy:

http://wonderly.com/bb/DROID/ROM/BETA/

Before downloading and installing, you need to understand that these are not "stable" builds, meaning it is likely that things may not work as expected. On the contrary, you may find it to run better than anything you have ever used. For those wanting to test and report issues, I ask the following:

1) Be very familiar with the rooting, custom recoveries, flashing roms, etc
2) Wipe data and cache (more than once) before installing the beta build
3) Not restore data (start fresh, download each app individually)
4) Use only the default kernel provided in the beta build
5) Not modify the beta build in any way (removing apps, themeing, etc)
6) Run only the latest baseband available (C_01.43.01P)
7) Run only the latest nightly build available
8) Fully read release notes/changelog before flashing beta build

Feedback and questions are to be posted on DroidForums in this thread:

As far as the stable release of GPA15, if no new issues appear in the nightly builds all I have left to do is update my kernels to V0.2. To keep an eye on the list of changes, check out the changelog.

  2. Awesome! Keep up the great work! Love to see some of the minor features that have been missing making it in. My phone has never run better than with your GPA roms and kernels.

As always great work thanks for keeping my OG droid up to date with the current android market. I swear by your builds for sure I just donated 10 bucks to the cause and the rest of you users out there need to do the same! Kudos Peter my hat is off to you! I am always down for testing as well, I wouldn't say I am the most advanced user but I am definitely good at finding bugs.

  8. Well worth the 10 bucks. Last nights nightly allowed me to bluetooth tether to my Xoom.

  9. is it possible to add the Russian language in the final assembly?
because your assembly is also relevant in Eastern Europe.

  10. Changelog looks promising! I'll wait for the official release though as my Droid is my work phone. Can't have erratic behavior when I'm trying to get things done. GPA14 has been running awesome though! Can't wait to update to GPA15.

  11. Yes indeed to GPA15! I just saw the new post and definitely wanted in since GPA14 is by far the best ROM I have ever installed on my phone using your V0.1 1.25GHz kernel! Though I am not big on beta releases and with all the hell I've caught with getting my phone to where it is now (until I found your site), I can't wait for the official release and V0.2 kernels. As Always, continue being perfectionately awesome.

  12. Pete, I never thought I'd see the battery meter at 40% after TWENTY-SEVEN HOURS off the charger! And - I've been using my Droid regularly on wifi and 3G without issue. I used to be lucky with 40% by mid-afternoon, so your work with GPA15 is nothing short of incredible. Checking with the battery status in Settings has shown that the phone slept more often than it did for me on GPA13/14. Frickin' miracle, man. Thank you!

  15. So I have to wipe data and cache even if I'm running 14 with the betas?

  16. Been running these Nightlies for a while, Great Work Pete! Gets better with every build. Truly amazing how well the "old" Droid hums along now. Really appreciate the switch to the new 1Ghz Default Kernel.. Runs like a champ. Need to get another Bluetooth headset so I can more thoroughly test the updates to Audio.conf I wanted you to include.

  17. Wow! Love the Reboot option!

  18. Yea, Pete, if we are running GPA14 do we need to wipe and clear when installing GPA15 beta? I was going to wait, but I can't stand it!!

  19. Pete, GPA15 is incredible! Currently running the 4/21 nightly, and I haven't found a single thing wrong with it. My battery life is great, and all the bugs that bothered me in GPA14 have been squashed. Thanks for all of your hard work!

  20. I updated from GP14 without wiping data/cache and it worked fine...YMMV. Finally able to bluetooth tether my wifi xoom, like another poster said. That alone is worth my $10 for this go around. Keep it up!

  21. Installed 4-21 last night - couldn't wait any longer. So far so good!!

  22. GPA15 runs awesome! I didn't wipe data or cache.

  23. Can you please put the date by things changed in the change log so we know what was changed from 1 nightly to the next?

Good work by the way i really hope when the source code is released for honey comb to see some things from you. Since your work with the previous Androids is so good.

  24. Peter,

Does the latest beta build include one of your just released 0.2 kernels? Assuming not, any problem with applying one of these kernels?

    Thanks, -mark

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Mark, yes my latest beta includes the SV 800MHz kernel, default to 600MHz.

  26. Peter,

that was fast! Thanks again for all of your work!

  28. @ Peter Alfonso...Awesome Pete! Now that Google has released a Google Docs app, can you strip out Quick Office from GPA 15? Its taking up precious space in our Droids!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Awesome builds, Pete. Been installing all the nightlies and each one has been better and more stable! Just downloaded the v0.2 kernel and looking forward to giving it a go! Thanks again and keep up the great work!

  30. Silly question for you Peter, or anyone else who wants to answer. Does your/his kernels support the wifi tethering apps? since i doubt this has the hotspot tether feature built in. Since Moto Droid has reached the peek of its updates (by google, and verizon's eyes). I am very interested in rooting, and installing your rom. thank you in advance

  31. Why is the latest beta smaller than its predecessors (60.1 vs 71.1)? I also wanted to let you know I just tried the Cyanogen 7.0.2 and I now realize why I love your MODs. I couldn't get my screen to work and ended up manually wiping cache, data, dalvik and restoring from clockwork as I couldn't get into ROM Manager. Thanks for all you do for us OGs'

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Scotty, I removed a ton of stuff. 60.1MB is the correct size, enjoy :)
@Anonymous, wifi tethering and native usb tethering is fully supported

  33. Very nice work, Pete.

  34. - What is the process to install the next daily build? Do I need to wipe everything or just install it on top of the previous daily build?

    - Also I am using 0.2, 1.0 lv kernel...does the kernel need to be reinstalled as well?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes just install over top and then install the kernel again. I'm running 4-29 beta and been installing nightlies without wiping and no issues.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks, Adam. Also, I want to report GPA15 is working great on my CDMA Milestone (Cellular South). BB should be great!

    Thanks for the work!

  37. Peter,
Just wondering what the status is on GPA 15. I don't want to rush you, and when I use a nightly from around 3/21, everything seemed to work great. I am just wondering what's up.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Please disregard my previous comment. Screw CyanogenMod ROM manager. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I went to Cyanogen because the last Gingerbread release was slow for me. But Cyanogen proved slow. Pete, you newest nightly is amazing. Sooooo fast, stable and I've yet to run into a real bug.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  40. hey Pete, thanks for all your hard work, i LOVE GPA14 along with your kernels. its been a couple days since the last released nightly build, was wondering when GPA15 final and stable version would be released. Ive tried many of other ROMS including cyanogen mod, but none have been even comparable to your mod. Thank you!

  41. Ok now, you're going to have to integrate the Talk app updated by xda (that includes video chat)!

  42. I have to say I was having issues with 14 and had to wipe so I went ahead and tried the latest daily you had up. Nice job. Running smooth as butter.
