I would like to present to you a clean stock Gingerbread (Android 2.3.2) ROM. Although this build is stock, I spent many hours modifying it to my liking. First off let me start by saying compiling Gingerbread for the Droid is a pain, goodluck to those who are attempting this process. On that note, I would like to say thank you to actngrezy for answering my questions about Gingerbread specific compiling. Secondly, but no less important, I would like to say thank you to the CyanogenMod community, specifically the maintainers for the Droid, cvpcs, mtwebster, and koush. Without the efforts of this community we (Droid users) would not have a stable, fully functional Gingerbread build.
So how is this build different from other Gingerbread ROMs?
For starters, this build was made using the master branch of the AOSP only two days ago, meaning it not only brings you to version 2.3.2 but it also has the latest bug fixes included. Once you flash this ROM you will immediately see how much time I spent making this build exactly how Motorola would have provided it to you (if they still supported our "old" device). This ROM has the stock signature Droid boot animation, ringtones, wallpaper set, 2D Launcher, and Neural Network live wallpaper. Additionally, I have implemented many of my own bug fixes and others provided by the development community. I also went ahead and enabled the Sound Recorder and Camcorder shortcuts because I find them useful.
Since Motorola will never "officially" provide the Droid with a Gingerbread build, we will never have accurate build numbers (e.g. FRG83) to go by. Because of this I have decided to create my own build numbers and always maintain an updated stock build for the Droid here on my website in the Downloads section. Upon installing this ROM, you will notice a build number of GPA10. The first letter stands for Gingerbread, second letter Peter, third letter Alfonso, and a number that will increase as I release future updated builds.
This ROM is to be treated as if it were an update straight from Motorola. For those learning to develop or those who base their ROMs off of stock builds you may use this ROM, modify it, and distribute it as your own. I do ask that you provide a link to my website wherever you distribute it. Also, please do not reupload this ROM elsewhere if you have not modified it in any way. I would like to keep track of the download count.
If you have not read about the amazing features that Gingerbread brings, I encourage you to visit android.com to learn more. While you're there you may notice that Android 2.3.3 is on its way, when it hits the source tree, I will bring it to you. Also, don't forget that the new market.android.com is now live and works well with this ROM. Most importantly, be sure to give Google a "thank you" by setting you and you're friends home page to Google.com!
I did not include ANY market apps in this ROM other than Car Home (because I included an updated version not available in the Market yet) and Quick Search Box (if you do not include this app, the search key will not work properly). Having said that, after the installation I recommend downloading YouTube, Gmail, Street View, Voice Search, Maps, and Flash Player. For those of you wanting a boost of performance without the need of a CPU scaling application, download and install AutoOverClock.zip which will bring this ROM to 800mhz. If you decide to flash an alternate kernel, it will automatically overclock itself to the highest available slot.
Ok, I am done rambling...follow me on Twitter and enjoy!

If you want a great 1Ghz kernel I recommend this one: http://bit.ly/fUb6wB
Awesome work Pete! Downloading now!
ReplyDeletePete, as always you rock my friend! Thanks for your efforts! Looking forward to taking this for a spin!
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming you have to wipe the cache and data to update? Hope not.
ReplyDeleteSweet!! Oh, and first... ;-)
ReplyDeleteHoly crap man, seems like you pumped this out super quick, I will definitely be giving it a run later on this weekend. Any suggestions for kernels to overclock to if decided it could use one?
ReplyDeleteThank You!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU PETE! This kicks ass, and after using CM7 (Thanks to them for helping you of course...) This is WAY better!
ReplyDeletePete
ReplyDeleteFirst off awesome work, will you be incorporating this into a new bugless beast in the near future?
so any known bugs?
ReplyDeletehey peter any know bugs?????
ReplyDeleteDUDE!!!!!! THIS ACTUALLY RUNS!!!! haahahahhha unbelievably amazing job!!!! i BOW TO YOU
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Peter, sorry for asking, but this ROM works on Milestone A853? There is the possibility of putting the Brazilian Portuguese language?
ReplyDeleteRunning this right now - great job Pete!
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated. I assume Rom Manager install?
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteis a wipe mandatory? i hope not lol too lazy to tweak after apps re install lol
ReplyDeleteI just flashed this to my phone and love it. Awesome job pete!! The only bugs I have came across is the market was giving me problems trying to get handcent and sometimes the signal bars take awhile to go to the green color...but hey I'm not bitching. I freakin love this.
ReplyDelete@Michael, the signal bars being white or green is actually a feature of Gingerbread. They only turn green when data is being used.
ReplyDeleteDo emulators work on this rom?
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Peter, I appreciate all of your hard work providing us awesome ROMs!!!
ReplyDeleteCan we get some screen shots??
ReplyDeleteDoes the camera and video camera work?
ReplyDeletenewb here, downloaded files how to install?
ReplyDeleteHi Peter,
ReplyDeleteCan we do this to the Droid incredible?
Can someone point a noob to the instructions for installing this? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, thanks you!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAny chance of an odexed version? Not sure how the whole compiling on android thing works and if it's possible.
ReplyDeleteHow do I install this?...custom rom challenged...thanks!
ReplyDeleteDon't want to sound like too much of a noob, but how do I install this on my droid? I treated it as a regular update, renaming it to update.zip, putting on the phone and booting into recovery. All I got was the triangle with the exclamation point.
ReplyDeleteHow do you install this? (Sorry, noob here.) Can I install it using recovery? Or using ROM Manager?
ReplyDeleteUpdated easy as pie. Anyone else having Youtube app force close? Other than that very minor inconvenience, excellent job, love it.
ReplyDeleteROM installed; runs smooth as silk. Donation button clicked; $5 is in your inbox now. Thanks, Pete!
ReplyDeletePete, I've got a feature request I'd like to pitch. I have to use a modified version of the stock email app because my company uses a non-standard exchange port. The stock app does not allow the user to specify a port in the server settings, thus the need for the modification. Is there any way you could integrate that feature into the stock email app that comes with your roms?
ReplyDeleteCaptcha: peterpo
You need a forum ASAP.
ReplyDeleteDitto on the how to install questions... I've used his SBF files with RSDLite before and that worked fine. But I have never been able to figure out how to install these zip files... please help!
ReplyDeleteI have seen other Gingerbread builds but things did not work. Camera & Flash, Video won't record, three axis GPS not working, and others. I hope everything works with this version..
ReplyDeleteFor the lazy people like, we gotta wipe first otherwise you get stuck in the loop. How does verizon update os without forcing us to wipe?
ReplyDeleteFor everyone else download the file, boot into recovery with clockwork, do a factory reset and wipe cache, then select install from zip, followed by choose zip from sd and just pick the gb zip
Great work man. Lovin it.
To install, just use ROM Manager, available in the market for root users. Drop this zip file on the root of your SD Card (not in any folders). Then in ROM Manager, choose install ROM from SD Card, scroll all the way to the bottom, select the folder you just put in there, and install that. Make sure ya do a back up, and upon installation, bam, your running it.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone confirm kernel as the 800Mhz stock? Also, anyone try without wiping data? Personally, I would not go that route but instead use an app backup/restore as well as LauncherPro backup and restore feature in Preferences.
ReplyDeleteYou are the man Peter! Thank you for all the time and effort you contribute to the community!
ReplyDeleteYou da man Pete! Thank you for providing an excellent alternative to the stock system. Your hard work and passion definitely comes through in your work.
ReplyDeleteNice work! It's blazing fast and stable. However, I am getting some homescreen redraws after using a memory-intensive app. Any tips?
ReplyDeleteAmazing! By bringing this ROM to my Droid, you have effectively fixed every bug and problem I was having with both my stock Droid as well as other ROM's. You rock!! Thank you so much!
ReplyDelete@ Pete thanks pete I should have read farther before saying that Thanks for clearing it up. Also the market I think was just having probs lastnight. Because it is working fine now, I do have one question I am getting double notifications. Is that also something that is a feature? Thank you agian for this amazing rom I love it.
ReplyDeletethis OK on a Droid only using wifi - no more verizon??
ReplyDeleteHow do i install the AutoOverClock.zip to my droid after installing this ROM?
ReplyDeleteDo we get to keep root if were already rooted?
ReplyDeleteI am not rooted and have not run a custom ROM on my Droid. What steps do I need to take so I can install this? Much thanks for the hard work!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, love it! Just need led notifications :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job man, will this work on a Motorola Milestone A853?
ReplyDeleteProbably a dumb question, but I've never downloaded one of these before...
ReplyDeleteDo I have to root my phone in order to download this? And if I do, what's the safest way to go about it? Thanks in advance!
How do I install this without root and only stock recovery?
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch for this, Pete! Hope an Odexed version is in the works.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
@Moose you need to head over th xda and use the search feature you will find everything you need to know there, there is alot of great people and lots of post on how to do what you are asking.
ReplyDeleteAwesome ROM, I love it! But whenever I get my phone outta sleep, it takes a little bit of time for the screen to display... maybe, a fix for that in the next update? Otherwise, it's incredible.
ReplyDeleteI also see that its already GPA10? What does this include do i need to wipe before flashing this??
ReplyDeleteDownloaded... RomManager Backup(just in case)... Install... Motorola Logo... Eyeball... No DROID sound??? GREEN?!?!
ReplyDeleteIts up and running.
Settings... About Phone...
Android Version 2.3.2
Build Number GPA10
Wyfi... Camera... acelerometors...Everything works.
Changing forum signatures as you read this! ;-)
I am a true noob for sure but I would love to have gingerbread on my DroidX. Does my phone need to be rooted? What are the steps to install if not?
ReplyDeleteJust to put in some of my experiences so far.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, Pete you rule! Love your work and all you do for the community and also thanks to all of those who assisted Pete as well.
I was previously running CVPCS' Sapphire Rom (2.0.0) which I loved. I decided to go ahead and just try flashing this directly over Sapphire without wiping anything. So far it's working great. I do notice a little bit of lag here and there but that could simply be due to me not wiping first. As for the spots where it's a little sluggish, mainly it's just when waking up by hitting the power button and also going into camera mode. Also I notice when going into camera mode the phone vibrates oddly. Not a quite short vibrate but rather random. Obviously not a big problem though.
For those of you who have never rooted your phone, and have never used a custom rom or a third party rom, it may be a little over your head depending on your skills. It's rather easy to do but can take a bit of work. There's several simple rooting methods out there that may or may not work for you. After you root you'll need to install a custom recovery (a lot usually just download Clockworks Rom Manager and then use rom manager to flash Clockwork Recovery). Once you install a custom recovery I'd recommend backing your phone up, then flashing the new rom. There's instructions on every droid forum out there. Just to name a few forums are www.droid-life.com and www.droidforums.net.
Installed - working great so far. Pete, another great job!
ReplyDeleteI believe that this is for Og droid only, if im not mistaken?
ReplyDeleteWorks great! $5 for you, sir!
ReplyDelete"Most of my donations are used to help pay for my education and buy textbooks."
Screw that! Use my $5 to buy some beer. When you finish, get back to work! ;)
--Bill
Great job, I was using the elite and this is way better!
ReplyDeleteI hate to ask but, my phone is rooted. Will I loose root if I download this? I have heard rom manager works good to install this: is this true? lastly, will I need to wipe my phone when I install this and if so what is the best way to back it up?
ReplyDeleteYou rock Pete!
ReplyDeletelook for you noobs. its pretty simple..
ReplyDeleteDOWNLOAD RSD LITE RIGHT. GET A DAMN USB CABLE.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN SD CARD.
WHEN PEOPLE SAY ROOT THEY MEAN THE BEGGINING OF THE SD CARD IN OTHER WORDS. NOT IN ANY OTHER FOLDERS. GOT IT? NOW THAT YOUR EDUCATED. FOLLOW STEPs.
1) download rsd lite... ok
2) download a recovery system shit.. i use SPRecovery. pretty decent so far.
3) hold up... on your dpad man screw it..
google it.
Thanks Pete for the GB update. Working great on mine, although had to restore the newer car home 2.2.1.4 that was just released today through titanium since the market wouldn't find it, the update included .1.2.
ReplyDeleteGB update works great hopefully the overclock does too im installing right now. THANK YOU. you are the man
ReplyDeletePete, you are the MAN! Eternal thanks!
ReplyDeleteuse rom manager is fast easy and very self explanatory... just put the update file on your sd card. NOT IN ANY FOLDERS then go to rom manager and click install rom from SD card and your phone will do everything itself including put all your apps back on your phone in given time.
ReplyDeleteYou do not loose root when you go to this. The Super User app is still there, and most importantly, AdFree still works :)
ReplyDelete--Bill
hi, peter
ReplyDeleteis rom working in AigoPAD E700 (SDKDemo devicewith cupcake 1.5).
Good Luck
i followed directions and have a triangle with ! in it?? what did i do wrong?
ReplyDeleteHello Peter, is this ROM Milestone A853 compatible?
ReplyDeletePeter, This is beautiful. I have been using the Vanilla FRG83 ever since it came out and this is sweet. What oveclock Kernel do you recommend besides the one you mention? I have been using the P3 LV 1000-250 but it says it is for Froyo only. Can anyone male a suggestion? I have SetCPU.
ReplyDeleteGingerbread Support for New Media Formats
ReplyDelete"Built in support for VP8 video compression as well as WebM open container format. Also AAC encoding and AMR wideband encoding is included for apps to capture higher quality audio than just narrowband."
Will someone PLEASE write an app that takes advantage of this "capture higher quality audio" for the Droid?
Please?? I know we're still limited by the crappy little microphone, but please do it anyway. I would if I wasn't a peabrain.
Thanks
I wish we Droid Pro users could get some ROMs based on Gingerbread....
ReplyDeleteTGFP! Thank Goodness For Peter! Wow... I am in love with my rooted Droid OG all over again! This 2.3.x is amazing... I can't say enough times "Thank You Pete! You rock!"
ReplyDeletePeter you NEED BIGTIME to creat a video on YOUTUBE showing for a stock OG DROID each step and tools needed (*meaning apps)ROM MANAGER ETC
ReplyDeletealso need to explain to people getting the BAD explanation triangle , to shut down and take out battery then install
@mikron24
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, I am rather scared of adding this on my phone, if a video was made and posted on YouTube, then I would be comfortable knowing of what we are getting.
@mikron24
ReplyDeleteI'm getting that triangle... do you mean to install the ROM without the battery? What?
Ok, so I was one of the noobs asking for help on this yesterday. I used this guide "http://www.droid-life.com/2010/09/09/another-android-2-2-frg22d-rooting-method-for-the-motorola-droid/" and was rooted and ready to apply this build in about 30 minutes. It's easy, just take your time, and read.
ReplyDeleteAnd to the anonymous poster who who felt the need to insult those who never rooted their phone before, since you're so good at googling stuff, next time provide a link. It takes the same amount of effort as being a jerk does.
Looking good now can you find a faster than 1.0 kernal that will work. P3 1.2 worked on BB 5 however not on this build.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Many thanks Peter! This is awesome. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI've run several custom GB roms, including the CM nightlies, but hands down this has run the absolute best on my 'ole Droid. At times it could be a little jerky when scrolling on the stock kernel, but now with the 1Ghz kernel you posted, it runs real smooth! Great work, Pete!
ReplyDeleteI cant say enough good things about this new build, I have been looking for a solid rom for months now. I originally started with cm then fell in love with miui, the only thing that kept me looking was the fact that none of the miui builds were polished enough, they still have many bugs to their builds and I'm sick of trying to get my phone to run properly. Peter you made me fall in love with my droid all over again and not only is this the best rom out but I know and trust that you will help it become the number one build in the usa. Again we all owe you for dedicating your valuable time and providing us with this spectacular rom.
ReplyDeleteNJN
My question is will it work on the Droid X ????
ReplyDeleteInstalled it and upgraded to the suggested kernel (which thankfully has ext[234] support yey!), but perhaps I'm used to older custom roms that have an /etc/init.d/ startup script directory. I use that for a mount script to start /sd-ext for more storage, but I'm not sure if it is a 'stock' rom difference or the layout has changed in Gingerbread but that directory doesn't exist. Anyone know a way to get that functionality back for custom startup shell scripts?
ReplyDeleteGreat ROM! Shocked by how clean and stable it is! This is what I've been waiting for. Very painless jump.
ReplyDeleteWhile this is smooth with 1Ghz kernel.. its about 20% slower than FRG83G with 1.1Ghz Slahyer.
Any 1.1Ghz GB kernels out there??
This is really nice- I highly recommend installing the 1 Ghz kernel Peter has linked on his site- otherwise its a bit laggy waking up. Great work!
ReplyDeleteHay the idea i tried to convey
ReplyDeleteif you get the triangle error is signature is corrupt so shut off device take out battery then reinsert battery start up and all should be fine to proceed to install
Anonymous said...
@mikron24
I'm getting that triangle... do you mean to install the ROM without the battery? What?
2/12/11 8:42 AM
This is the greatest thing ever. Thank you so much for doing this for all of us OG Droid users who have stuck with our phones to the end!
ReplyDeleteCan i use titanium back up to restore my apps and data?
ReplyDeletePardon my ignorance, I just cam from the Touch Pro 2 that finally died and am now the proud owner of the Droid. I have the rom installed and I must say it is extremely impressive, thank you for your hard work to make this happen on the Droid. Can someone provide me with a link that will help me install the 1 Ghz kernal. I have come form a piece of crap winmo device and need some assistance
ReplyDeleteThis is outstandingly simple love it it all works no special settings it just works battery life is good
ReplyDeletePeter,
ReplyDeleteGreat work as usual. Can we get compcache?
The Slathered 1.1 works great also.
ReplyDeleteHow needs OTAs when we have great people like this to keep us going! Thank you Pete.
ReplyDeleteSlathered? Haha ...Slayher 1.1 works great
ReplyDeleteSweet rom!!! and I want to use it! However, does anybody know why Titanium Backup will not restore apps. It trys for about 3 seconds then reboots. I is stumped. It works for other roms. I came from a CN Nightly and I have a few tracking apps that do not have a data save function so I need Ti Bu. Thanks for any help.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the killer work Pete!
Amazing job.... peter. Everything works. I rooted and flashed a rom for the first time. Glad I did it. I wish you included the 3d launcher instead of 2d. Anyway.. thanks for everything man
ReplyDeleteokay so far I've managed to do this and love it one question though. How do I go about installing the AutoOverclock.zip
ReplyDeleteWell after spending a few hours figuring out how to root my Droid which was WAY more labor intensive than it should have been I finally got it up and running and it appears to be stable. Kudos to you. My stock droid was unstable at best so anything would be an improvement.
ReplyDeletePete,
ReplyDeleteI just sent you $100. I have been meaning to donate for a while since I have been using your stock ROMs since August. This time I went all the way and installed the AutoOverClock and the 1 gHz kernel. Everything seems to be working well and the Droid is much more responsive. Keep up the good work.
I have a couple of request for things that I think should have been built into the Android operating system from the beginning. If you agree I guess you would add them to the Beast.
First, I think that when a calendar or alarm clock notification occurs that a screen similar to the one that pops up when a call is received should pop up. Have all buttons and screen touches, including the home key, locked except for two sliders. One slider would dismiss the alarm. The other slider would call up a snooze menu that allowed the user to select the amount of time to snooze the alarm. The first item in the snooze menu for a calendar alarm would be "5 min before".
Second, is a rock solid USB sync to Outlook on my desktop. None of the available programs work very well, and my work will not allow wireless connections to their network.
I do not know if this is the kind of programming that you are into, but like I said I think it should have been in the operating system from day one.
Thanks again for all of your good work,
David
Awesome rom, Pete!
ReplyDelete1 day and 42 minutes on battery I'm down to 10%! Such an improvement...but the red light isn't blinking for low battery.
Also I noticed when calls come in it takes a little longer for the screen to switch over to show who is calling and let me answer it.
Otherwise everything seems fantastic.
Keep up the amazing work.
Absolutely perfect install via ROM Manager, thanks a ton Peter! The Android user community is fortunate to have people like you.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a good time for me to get back to my own Android tinkering.
Dad and I loaded it on our OD's yesterday. Very stable, love the new UI. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was torn by wanting gingerbread goodness, but getting really tired of the instability of the cm nightlies. I'd rather have a working phone. And that's just what you've done!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Running for two days no problems. Everyone who receives a benefit from this should skip the long thank-you's to Pete and hit that donate button to show how much you really appreciate the work.
ReplyDeleteHow do I insall it the 1Ghz kernel?
ReplyDeleteinto the recovery option?
or need a specific program to do it?
i would like to know it before to make it a mistake.
Note:i am noob with this.
Running great so far using the Slayher Kernel you suggested via twitter, real performance boost!
ReplyDeleteLove all the work you've done Pete.
ReplyDeleteThe build is great! Thanks for the OG Droid support still. I do miss toggling the volume to silent though. Anyone else having swype issues? Other than those, this thing works like a charm
ReplyDeletePosted a stupid comment earlier...this is great but really miss all of the customization in bugless beast. Can't wait for Pete to release a bb for Gb.
ReplyDeleteAny chance that you will add functionality to the power button, to choose between rebooting, power off, airplane mode etc?
ReplyDeleteThe ROM is terrific and thank you for all your hard work.
Just flashed GPA today and I'm lovin' it. I can't wait for some customizations though. Also, I'm running it on a Slayher 1.2 Kernel and it's running great. Awesome Quadrant and Linpack scores. Try it out!
ReplyDeleteGPA10 + Slayher1.6LV = One awesome Droid 1. Fantastic work my friend.
ReplyDeleteHi, sorry to bother but i am kinda lost. Do i have to have rooted phone for theese ROM? Thank you for your answer in front.
ReplyDeleteDo i have to have rooted phone for this ROM or can be stock 2.1update? (EU Motorola Milestone A853)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeletedo i have to have rooted phone for theese ROM or not? (Motorola MILESTONE EU A853)
Ty for answer!
hey peter I'm a Rokie installing Custom Roms IF YOU can I Need Some Support PLZ.....
ReplyDeleteThis is, by far, the most stable GB I have used to date. It IS an actual FINAL release rather than a "final release; should have been 'release candidate'". Absoluely everything works for me on my day 1 purchased OG.
ReplyDeleteThe only things I truly miss are the quicklinks in notification bar. This is amazingly useful and sorely missed especially if I wish to do a "quick" WiFi reset. Though, I must state WiFi is amazingly stable compared to any ROM I've previously used and does recognize, as well as reset, a dropped connection fairly quick. On a lesser note, I also miss the "reboot" feature on the "power off" Phone Options screen. But hey, it's definitely stock.
No real noticeable lag on this build. Battery life is truly amazing on my phone and I mean "amazing".
A few hiccups to begin with. I did lose 3G data connectivity on the first call. I toggled between WiFi and back to 3G to fix. Never encountered the problem again. Also, maybe after an hour upon first install, had the lockscreen wakeup lag for a few seconds before appearing. A reboot later and this issue has not presented itself again.
LED's work on my OG as well unless the phone is in use. I truly can't remember if it was the same way using Moto's stock version. It has been too too long to recall. But, if the screen is off it lets me know there's a notification which is the point that really matters.
RaidZero's alternate kernel works so well! Nice speed boost and hasn't seemed to impact my battery life in a way I would notice. Again, still amazing battery life for me.
A solid "stock" ROM and pretty much exactly what Moto would, most likely, push out to us OG users if they cared. We Droid 1 users are debatedly what put Android on the map and turned Motorola around. Its open bootloader is part of its continuing success. I only hope the next round of Moto phones, namely the Bionic, returns to a common sense open bootloader approach.
This release should make you feel a bit of excitement not unlike when you bought your Droid. It most definitely should allow you to continue to enjoy your OG until the LTE wave hits with dual core chips. Your Droid, especially with the RaidZero kernel, will perform just as fast, if not faster, than the Droid 2 and X with GPA10. Not to mention Peter's affirmation he'll continue to update 2.3 releases as they're made available, really, how can you lose!?
+1 Peter YOU ROCK!
ReplyDelete+1 Seems slow to wake/unlock.
--Thanks and keep at it!
Amazing job. You're work is nothing short of spectacular.
ReplyDeleteMy one small qualm is while the music player is running and you lock the screen it causes the music to lag.
Once again though, excellent work.
wow thank u so much
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Breathed new life into my Droid!
ReplyDeleteOne question, though. Is anybody else missing "protected apps" from the market? The New York Times app, for example. I believe this has to do with the ROM's fingerprint... I'm sure it's just a matter of time till it gets fixed but does anybody have a solution in the mean time?
Can some one please walk me through the 1GHZ kernal install. Downloaded, on SD card. Next please
ReplyDeleteGreat so far! But just one question:
ReplyDeleteIn 2.2, I was running "Custom Car Home", and it replaced the default for Car Home (like when you click the icon or when you plug the Droid into the dock).
With the version of Car Home that came with this ROM, there isn't even a setting for "default Car Home app"; it's just an app.
How to fix?
I just installed this. To answer some questions:
ReplyDelete1 - Even though I did not use titanium backup, and did a full wipe using ROM Manager, the market auto-reinstalled all my apps, and all my data (as far as I can tell) is still there. I had Ultimate Droid before and all my stuff on the SD card. But when it goes through this "reinstall" cycle it will try to install to internal memory and you might run out (I did). Just uninstall and re-install stuff if you have problems, moving it to SD Card.
2 - Yes, the camera works normally. As does GPS.
3 - The default launcher is a little clunky...I installed LauncherPRo and it is silky smoooth. Screen transitions are faster and smoother than with launcher pro on 2.2. You will need to re-input your paid key in you have launcher pro.
4 - Yes, YOU NEED TO BE ROOTED to install this. You will need to do a full wipe as well, or you will get stuck in a bootloop.
5 - Yes, this is a stock ROM (no custom stuff...just stock Android)...no it does not unroot you when you install it.
6 - Yes this is for Droid 1 only.
7 - New Market is installed by default.
8 - You do not need to install a custom kernel, but it is recommended. The default one will allow you to overclock to 800mhz, which is fast enough. I installed the Slayher 1.6ghz kernel and this thing runs very well.
i already installed the ROM and have it overclocked to 800mhz...would I have to re wipe everything to install the Slayher Kernel....and just wondering where did you get the 1.6ghz kernel
ReplyDeleteJust tried the Slayher kernel and the lag seems gone from the turn on (not boot) and the unlock swipe seems better.
ReplyDeleteWould like to see the microphone return to the soft keyboard. Did Google actually remove it in GB?
where can a person download Slayher 1.6ghz
ReplyDeleteSlayher LFY kernels
ReplyDeletehttp://android.markjohnston.us/DL/LFY/KERNELS/
Not working on Motorola Milestone 853 ?
ReplyDeleteFirst time rooting just for this. Got it working in a few hours time, got the 1Ghz going as well. Love it. 5 dollars your way good sir.
ReplyDeletehow to get from GOT 2.2.1, installed MUIU CUSTOM ROM to these 2.3.2 gingerbread? Do i have to move the rom to Openrecovery or i have to flash some .sbf file before that? TY for answers!
ReplyDeleteOK for all the people that are new to the process and don't know what steps to take here is my journey to share!
ReplyDeletefirst off Peter has on his site RSD LITE and I tried that and could never get the program to recognize my Original Droid ,so I had to Root my phone first and the only one that worked
SuperOneClick v1.6.5
the only requirement to work is to go into Droid settings, Applications,Development then check USB Debugging!!!! also make sure you have microsoft Net Framework 2.0 or higher the exact the folder for SuperOneClick v1.6.5 and right click and "run as admin" with the Droid connected by usb and hit ROOT and it will then be rooted when done also I disconnected device after that went back in and also did it second time for the option thats says "Allow Non Market apps"
Then finally my Original Droid was rooted with the icon in Settings
I wanted to just share this because I tried many times and this was the only way to do it safe and easy
The next step after that is to use Rom Manager and install the custom rom , steps are out lined by Phil thanks to him see his post
Thanks for this, Pete! GPA11 + that 1GHz kernel you recommended made my Droid feel brand new again.
ReplyDeleteAnyone want to help me, I get a MD5 mismatch
ReplyDeletehow do i load the slayer onto the droid?

ReplyDeletequestion already answered in gpa011 forum you need to get rom manager and boot into recovery and install zip file from sd card
ReplyDeleteonce you reboot up you will need to use

Been running GPA11 with the 1GHZ slayer kernel for a few days now. The battery life is amazing as well as the speed and stability of my phone. You are a true master of the android platform. Keep up the amazing work.
ReplyDeleteGood evening, I am definitely a nooby to swapping roms and related work. I apologize for my ignorance. I have a Droid 1, was rooted with 2.2.1. I was able to install rim manager, and to backup my rom, wipe data/cache, and to install the latest build mentioned here. This works great, thank you! I have never updated a kernel, and would like to, but am not sure how to do this right. Is this as simple as using rom manager to load the zip? Will this require a reload of the gingerbread rom? Should I have integrated the os and kernel files first? Any help is appreciated.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely amazing job good sir. Works like a charm. I am a computer tech who does mostly hardware support and trouble shooting and I am not very familiar with rooting and such. This was my first time really playing around with the installation of ROMs on my little droid, and I must say, absolutely wonderful job...I will be following ur updates closely and look forward to future updates. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the difference between GPA10 and GPA11?
ReplyDeleteExcellent job. Very stable. I am new to rooting and ROM's and such...this is an attempt to familiarize myself with these things and you have made it a most pleasant experience. Thank you sir. A job well done indeed. I will be donating upon receipt of my next paycheck. =D
ReplyDeleteAnyone see battery life improvements? What specs do you have? I'd love to know before I make the switch.
ReplyDeleteWill we see it in Rom Manager???
ReplyDeleteAnother noob question. If I do a factory data wipe, does that impact my access to apps I've paid for? If yes, is there a way to recover these without paying for them again?
ReplyDeleteAmazing!!! Why doesn't Motorola give us gingerbread?
ReplyDeleteIf you paid for it through the app store, then yes, as soon as you add the account you've been using, they'll show up in the market as "purchased."
ReplyDeleteIf you puchased out of market, you'll have to go through those app suppliers or whatnot. For example, I bought Launcherpro (Awesome btw) and got a serial key. After flashing this rom, i just downloaded the app, entered my key, and was back on top!
I know all you are super teckies, but I have never tried anything like this and dont want to be left with a useless phone,so with that said, can anyone give a step by step instructions ? please please
ReplyDeleteif peter would give a step by step instructions I would be happy to donate

ReplyDeleteI need gingerbread for dummies here
is there anyone who can talk me thru this? can give my email, trade phone numbers etc,?
ReplyDeletedoes your phone have to be rooted to do this ?
ReplyDeleteAnxious to give this a try, but unfortunately getting page not found error when I attempt to download. Is there an alternate location where this can be downloaded?
ReplyDeleteThis seems to be really a terrific work by you ....
ReplyDeleteI have a Droid 2 Global with Android 2.2. Can I also use your ROM to upgrade the OS??
Thanks
@ benno
ReplyDeleteThere is a newer version, GPA12
It can be downloaded at the downloads tab on the top of the page
Awesome stuff Pete. Keep up the good work & thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello I have a droid 2 not global running 2.2. Would I able to upgrade to Gingerbread? Are there any extra steps that I should take?
ReplyDeleteSo here's my screen, i believe i've followed the above, although i do not get to a point in which i'm actually selecting the zip file from this boot screen. i select it from the rom manager interface, but if it also is chosen again to apply it during the process below than my error must be coming up before this step.
ReplyDeleteHas anybody trying this rom with Moto Droid 1 seeing this?

edit to the anonymous post 3/25/11. My options weren't the same as when i tried the GPA14 ROM. this ROM has the boot menu option to actually pick the file from the sd card. For some reason i don't see this option on GPA13. Anyway, i can pick the GPA file now, and it completes within a minute. Thanks Peter! I'll donate also...
ReplyDeleteThis is Awesome, New life to my Droid. Pandora actually pauses on phone call then resumes on hang up. VERY FAST AND EFFICIENT. THANKS FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND HARD WORK.
ReplyDeleteany confirmation of droid 2 support???
ReplyDeleteIs it necessary to uninstall SetCPU in order to use AutoOverClock?
ReplyDeleteI was using Cyanogen and hated the launcher and all the bloat that came with it. This is so much cleaner and faster! with this ROM and overclocking to 1kHz, this *is* the Droid I'm looking for.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter!
How do you get the autooverclock installed?
ReplyDeleteholy schmoly! it works! THANK YOU!
