As many of you may know, one of my favorite developers Xeudoxus, has created many tools/patchers you can use to modify your Droid. One of his patchers will adjust the minimum automatic brightness level from a value of 16 (stock) all the way down to 2 if you wish. This tweak lowers the brightness level of your screen to save battery life and make your phone easier to view at night. Unfortunately his patcher does not work for the Droid X so I took it upon myself to port the hack. On the Droid X the stock minimum automatic brightness level is at a value of 42, I have lowered this value to 2. You should notice a significant difference in battery life now that your screen will dim much much lower than it used to. The reason I spent time porting this hack is because this is one of the features that will be included in Bugless Beast V0.5 for the Droid and Droid X.
Only use this on the latest leaked build for the Droid X 2.3.15

Thanks Pete...gonna check it out
ReplyDeleteAwesome job, but you should include a services.jar with this. I'm coming from Gala Theme and it gave me a stock notification bar (with white text).
ReplyDeleteCan I use this on FlyX?
ReplyDeletesweet Pete. Cant wait for BB V0.5!
ReplyDeletemaybe i'm reading between the lines but..."Bugless Beast V0.5 for the Droid and Droid X"...are you working on a BB for droid x?
ReplyDeleteLocker 2.0 also had this option. Worked on FlyX, but couldn't get the default launcher selection to go away.
ReplyDeleteWelcome the hack though, Cant wait for a BBX rom.
Would this work for D2 as well?
ReplyDeleteStupid question but how do I install??
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at this forum daily for months for the next droid update, but I wanted to pass this along to my buddy with the droid x. He has not rooted his phone. I assume this is a update.zip type install, so... questions:
ReplyDelete1) does he need root? If so, can someone post a good link to simple rooting instruction for the X.
2) does he need to hack recovery? If so, can someone post link for those instructions as well?
Thanks,
B. Hurd
By the way Pete, I've been restraining myself from posting conspiracy theories about google asking you to stop or delay bugless beast roms as explanation for no updates for motorola droid 1.
ReplyDeleteI think many are curious if there is any reason you haven't released even a very basic Rom update (beyond the usual factors of time, energy, and other projects)?

checking site on a daily bases for BBv0.5 can't wait Pete......
ReplyDeleteCannot wait for BB 0.5, I'm checking in at least once a day.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know how to update Gmail app with BB 0.4 (from market place)?
Hello!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this peter. I applied this to 2.3.15 and it worked but the brightness is TOO low. I would like to do back to stock...could you be able to provide the zip with stock settings, please?
P.S looking for to supporting your work!
"The reason I spent time porting this hack is because this is one of the features that will be included in Bugless Beast V0.5 for the Droid and Droid X."
ReplyDeleteThis totally made my day!
I had to switch to a different ROM as I was tired of getting the update requests from VZW. Hopefully Pete will come out with BB 0.5 soon enough (been 3 months since 0.4).
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a BB 0.4 download? And how do i install?
ReplyDeleteWhere's the link to the D1 version of this brightness hack? I found an app that lets you set the minimum but it broke the sensor so my screen was always dim which was horrible in sunlight.
ReplyDeletewill this be updated to gingerbread? It would be really nice
