How To: Root Samsung Galaxy S

Easy Peasy.
  1. Download rootupdate.zip
  2. Rename to update.zip
  3. Place on sdcard (the built in card, not the removable)
  4. Boot into recovery mode
(shut off phone, then hold power, volume up, & volume down at the same time)
  5. Select "Reinstall Packages"
  6. Enjoy, you now have a rooted device!
*Note: I remade the root update.zip, the ones found on other sites were rather sloppy to say the least...

  2. Man those Galaxy S phones look sweet, if it was my time to upgrade I think I would leave my original Droid for one. That's right, no Droid 2, no Droid X.

  16. Hey Pet, I did everything as you mentioned and when I hit reinstall package, I got this error message; E:signature verification failed. Installation aborted. I actually keep getting this error with all rooting file that I tried and I do not know why. So, what I did is that I downloaded the file directly from my phone and made sure it is on the internal sd card and then I followed the rest of he instructions. Do I need to have special software or do any setting before I reboot in the recovery mode.
Thanks and waiting for your help.

  18. Hi :)
Can you tell me if I can use this root on my Galaxy S Showcase from Cellsouth/Cspire? http://www.cspire.com/shop_and_learn/devices/product_phone_detail.jsp?id=prod23560025

My battery life is horrible and I heard rooting the phone helps with that.

    Thanks!
