I woke up from my nap while camping and had a few notifications on my phone about the OTA update. I immediately downloaded it from Google, reflashed my Droid to ESE81, modified the OTA update and applied it (just as I said in this post). The end result; the official Froyo OTA update rooted and ready to go:
Download Link
P.S. Sorry about the nap, I could have gotten this out about 4 hours earlier. I should have known I wouldn't be able to take a vacation without playing with the Droid...
Blogs, Forums, etc, feel free to post this on your site but please provide a link to my site. Also please use this download link: http://bit.ly/otafroyo
Update (10:00PM EST):
Apparently this post needs some clarification on a few different points. Let's start with the installation of this file. This file is for those of us who were previously rooted and wish to keep root, not for those who never had root access before. Simply boot into recovery mode and install as you would any other ROM (be sure to wipe data & cache).
Some of you may have noticed already that I do moderate the comments on my site (hence the reason why yours may post a little late). Why do I do this? To maintain a friendly atmosphere. This is not a place to come bash someone, rather a place to become informed and maybe even learn a bit. The reason I went off on this rant is because of some comments users tried to post saying things such as "DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR UPDATE USING THIS FILE IT IS FAKE!", "You thought we were stupid Pete?", etc.
Haters Read:
I do not have time for your games and never will. Please keep running your mouth about me because it is great free advertisement. If you would have done a bit of research before trying to bash me on my own site you could have saved us all some time. Now for your lesson; these files are tested for quite some time before being released to the public, this file for example was being tested since 7-14-10. As with our previous OTA update, the build date is earlier than it was released. Think about it, why would a company test a file for one hour before releasing it to tens of thousands rather than having a large number of employees test it for months? Also, find a friend with a stock Droid running the OTA update, install Astro File Manager, navigate to the build.prop and open it. As you read the build date, look at him and repeat the following: "I am an idiot". Still in denial? I'll even give you the files I modified to apply the OTA update over ESE81 so you can see it being patched with your own eyes!
Haters Download:
Untouched ESE81
OTA FRG01B Update
Haters Install:
1. Place both downloaded files on sdcard
2. Boot into Recovery Mode
3. Wipe Data/Cache
4. Choose and install ESE81
5. Choose and install OTA update
6. Watch my files combine!
7. Reboot
8. Sit in the corner and feel shamed
W0 to the 0t!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pete! Can't wait til the BB version.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the awesome work but enjoy the vacation!
Can I upgrade to this directly from FRF84B, or should I wipe/reflash?
ReplyDeleteDownloading now.. you're the best!
ReplyDeleteI love you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, been waiting all day for ya.
ReplyDeletemen you even root during vacations??? then I wonder what is taking you so long for releasing BB0.5
ReplyDeletedo I understand this right is this the recent official OTA update rooted?
ReplyDelete@Jeff, yes this is the official OTA
ReplyDeletethat was fast
ReplyDeletePeter you are amazing.
ReplyDeletePlease forgive the noob question but is this safe to apply over other rooted pre-releases of FroYo? For example, I have FRF57 (voles-userdebug 2.2 FRF57 38829 test-keys)
If not, what is the recommended process?
@Brandon,
ReplyDeleteYou need to wipe data/factory reset before installing.
Does this also include an overclockable/wifi tetherable kernal?
ReplyDeleteThanks pete!
@Glory,
ReplyDeleteOddly enough it does, I uploaded it while camping using my Droid :P
Thanks Pete! Just download and install via SD car in ROM Manager with a Complete wipe right?
ReplyDeletemuch love ,oh and apparantly your post at droidforums about this seems to have disapeared ?
ReplyDeleteor did it get moved since its not techinically bugless beast ?
Pete, thank you for being awesome.... I'm running BB.4 and will probably wait for BB.5. I will however, keep this OTA rooted version on my Droid just for kicks. Allot of people are having issues with Flash on the official version, thoughts???
ReplyDeleteI'm still on 2.1 non rooted, Im assuming now is the time, with this?
ReplyDeleteto install this from an earlier rooted 2.2 froyo we do the rename as update.zip and then wipe and install from recovery. is this correct?
ReplyDeleteTruly awesome. Thanks for this!!
ReplyDeletePete, you rock!!!
ReplyDelete1) Does this allow the non-adhoc wifi hosting built into (non-crippled) froyo? Wait, nevermind, Verizon are stupid. The OTA must already have this ripped out of it.
2) When going from BB 0.4 to the future BB 0.5 based on this will a data wipe be necessary there as well?
Just apply this and v0.4 should work the same as before, correct?
ReplyDeleteDo you have to rename it or just use ROM manager and in stall Rom from SD?
ReplyDeleteWat if I manually installed the official 2.2? Is there a way to go about installing this file over that? And how would it be done?
ReplyDeleteMy wife is getting a new droid tomorrow. Not sure if it will be 2.0 or 2.1.
ReplyDeleteWould I just rename this to update.zip and install with the stock recovery? And if I do this will I be able to flash clockwork recovery after I have root?
Thanks in advance. You're the best.
.
.
ok....another noob question. Can i use bkapps with this? it has been a God-send for changing roms...lol
ReplyDeleteCan someone give me the run down of what i have to do if im on ESD56 the 2.0.1 update on my Droid 1 to get to a plain rooted 2.2 update? i mean is this a plain 2.2 rooted version right?
ReplyDeleteI have a rooted 2.1 droid and wanted instructions on how to add this update.
ReplyDeletewhen i flashed it using clockwork recovery. it was dated 7-14-10. is this the ota that was released on 8-3-10? or the leak
ReplyDeleteYou may not want to answer, but how did you get root on 2.2? like how do you take their package and add root?
ReplyDeleteJust installed and running great! Thanks!!!!
ReplyDeletealso curious on how to update from 2.1 UNrooted to this 2.2 rooted version...
ReplyDeletename to update.zip and drop on sd and do go into bootloader is enough? or is there extra rigmarole?
You should get "Samore" props.
ReplyDeleteOk, love the fact that I got this so quickly from Pete. But I have one question. I downloaded it from the front page, and wiped and updated to the new provided file. When I Droi went through the steps, I got the little square after install was complete and it said 2.2 Froyo... But the date was 14 July 2010. Did I get the old Odexed Froyo that was put out 2 weeks ago? Also, what baseband should I be using with this?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone see flash installed on this ROM or do you see it in the market?
ReplyDeletedoes this link you out up ROOT a NON-ROOTED phone or is it specifically fopr rooted systems
ReplyDeletePETE THIS IS IN ALL CAPS AS I AM SERIOUS... PLEASE STOP JUSTIFYING YOUSELF TO THE HATERS... YOU HAVE A HUGE FOLLOWING AND WE KNOW THE REAL... Just my .02 cents...
ReplyDeleteSo if I already put the 2.2 unrooted on the phone is there an easy way to get back so I can put the rooted 2.2 on it?
ReplyDeleteWhy does this have a 800MHZ kernal, is that the stock kernal that came with the update.
ReplyDeleteHaters gonna hate.
ReplyDeletenice stuff, Pete. Always glad to see the honest truth come out in a calm and controlled manner. Please, please keep your cool so you can stay around as long as possible. This is the number one things that cause devs to burn out.
Pete never fails!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThe kernel defaults to 600mhz, you must be rooted to bring it to 800mhz. Yes it is the official from the ota, as is the entire .zip I made.
Lol! Sickem pete! Happy camping.. btw marshmallows - to burn or not to burn? Hahaha had to ask. ; )
ReplyDeletePete been running this for about 2 hours now... seems faster than the last one. Thanks man good work.
ReplyDeletehaha, i like your comments to the haters. i have my wife running your latest 2.1 rom at 1.2 ghz with the bekit kernel and the smoked glass theme (im on the x...like it a lot...im not having the issues you are with yours...feel bad for you) anyway, wife loves the droid with your setup...it runs so fast and smoothe i cant seem to pull the trigger for the 2.2 upgrade yet.
ReplyDeleteHey, i installed this over 0.4 without wiping data only cache, and it's running fine, but should i be worried since you stated to wipe data also?
ReplyDeletePete, this might sound blasphemous on your site but I'm running CyanogenMod-6 but I'm very eager to try this rooted OTA Froyo. Thanks for your hard work. I just wanted to ask if I should be doing wipe data/cache as well even if I"m coming from a Froyo ROM? Thanks a bunch.
ReplyDeletecan u plz do droid x stuff!!! my phone is so lonely :(
ReplyDeleteDown with Haters! Up with BB 0.5!
ReplyDeleteWhat about the baseband update included in the OTA update? I just flashed this using ROM Manager from the market but the baseband is unchanged (while a stock droid using update.zip from Google did get a new baseband)
ReplyDeleteWhy in the world would anyone think Pete would release a fake, just to be first. He consistently delivers and has nothing left to prove to anyone.
ReplyDeleteSo I must be an idiot. I downloaded the file, wiped data/factory reset and wiped cache (3 times) I then did the update and my phone still has my old wallpaper but just about everything else appears stock. I had to re logon to my Gmail account and am now doing massive market downloads (automatically).
ReplyDeleteWhen I check settings, it is clear the download took (FRG01B by Pete).....Any idea how I get all my v0.4 set up back? I liked the way I had everything set up before. Even the icons on the bottom of my pages (Phone, web etc) no longer look like they did in v0.4
Thanks,
Marc
Anyone else having issues connecting to WPA/WPA2 encrypted wifi with this rom? Could be some minor setting in my openwrt router, but I swear this was working with my Droid recently.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the hard work pete!!
ReplyDeleteI wish all the "haters" / "idiots" should just stick with a non-rooted sandbox toy like the iPhone....
Pete love your work man I have been posting links to your site all day hooking up the masses. Haters need to piss off and go download something else.
ReplyDeletePete, I have a lot of respect for you. Thanks for your work. My dad and I both only run your ROM's because we can depend on you. Again, thanks for this quick, from camp update!
ReplyDeleteLove your roms! I'm running BB v 0.4, with a 1100 chevyno1 kernel and the phone is a speed demon!
ReplyDeleteWill hold out for 0.5! Keep up the good work!
Sorry with the back to back posts, Also wondering if there is any way to block the OTA update?
ReplyDeletePete, (or anyone really)
ReplyDeleteWhat app/backup method do you recommend for backing up apps ???? The thing is I have this app (Ringo Pro) that lets me set different ringtones and SMS tones for specific people. But after every update when I do a wipe I've got to reenter them one by one, there is no saved settings deal on the SD.
What do you recommend ????
Installed your update via recovery mode and now my phone is in infinite reboot. Gets as far as the Motorola logo and then reboots. It was rooted with 2.1 on it. Help!
ReplyDeletePete, I am running a stock Droid with 2.1 and would love to update to your Froyo Rooted Rom. I know that this is for rooted users, but I am curious about what would be the best/easiest/quickest steps to get there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for everything Pete. Most of us really appreciate the work you do, got to have some whiners out there though. I don't understand why they complain when all they do is sit back while you do all the work for us. Can't wait for BB .5 Pete.
ReplyDeleteYou do excellent work.
ReplyDeletePete- haters gotta hate lol same with my work, kick'em in the junk and keep moving forward ;)
ReplyDeleteI have the rooted, official Froyo installed with Flash 10.1 player. All is well. Thanks very much, Pete.
ReplyDeleteBut how do I install the latest Baseband "C_01.43.01P" Is this really necessary?
You folks are lucky this guy is supporting your phone. He dropped a quick rom for us EVO owners and we were all over it. We now hope he decides to drop one for the Evo 2.2 release. Thanks a bunch Pete. Your roms and works are greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeletehey pete, ever since i flashed this official ROM, i'm missing some apps from the market. I wiped 2x and cleared market cache and even flashed again and wiped 2x and cleared market cache and still nothing. any help's appreciated
ReplyDeleteWhen is 0.5 coming out anyway? By no means I'm rushing but... it is hard to wait!! BB is like crack.
ReplyDeleteThanks pete! nice work
ReplyDeleteI have a droid 1 and it was rooted. i installed the file and now show android version 2.2. for some reason my phone isnt finding my sd card. i keep getting the message that it's safe to remove the sd card. if i try to go to settings and mount the sd card, it dosent work. HELP!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pete. Everything is installed and working on my Droid 1. Thanks for sharing this and please take naps as needed.
ReplyDelete'Pwned' is all i can say. I love it when nerdrage gets squelched, you know they're on the other end of their computers squealing like angry little girls lol! Pete is the man!!!!
ReplyDeletePete, I rooted my phone before the Froyo update through easy root. Phone still says rooted but I am not able to use screen shot. I am guessing with the update I am no longer able to use easy root as it is not compatible with 2.2. is it too late to use your rooted froyo update? thanks in advance... Bill
ReplyDeleteI liked it. But went back to bugless beast v4. Just like it better
ReplyDeleteanyway to root my phone after I have already downloaded the OTA? I rooted with easy root prior to the update, says I am rooted but doesn't seem to allow me to use screenshot.. thanks
ReplyDeleteExcellent Work Pete! Super Excited for the next BB release!
ReplyDeleteNo hating here. Thank you so much for this sweet gift! Because of it, I am returning my X and keeping my new droid that I just picked up on craigslist.
ReplyDelete@TonyVeGot,
ReplyDeleteIf you are asking about the easiest way to gain root on 2.1, I believe that downloading/running EasyRoot from the market is the simplest way to do this (this app does cost $1). Alternatively, the guide at http://forum.droidmod.org/index.php/topic,1004.0.html worked like a charm for me.
Why does this rooted build of the 2.2 ota using the old baseband while the new 2.2 ota uses a newer baseband?
ReplyDeleteLove your work pete, thanks for the time you spent on this while on your vacation.
ReplyDeleteIf I don't wipe data & cache when I apply what would happen? Am I risking a Droid paperweight or will my apps be all freaked out? I just really, really don't want to loose my sms, apps, settings etc. If I can apply this update without wiping that would be super cool, but if a wipe is absolutely necessary then I'll just wait.
ReplyDelete>> DROID DOES - BUT PETER ALFONSO DOES BETTER <<
ReplyDeleteNot long ago a platform came, open source to anyone with a desire to implement it into tomorrow’s mobile devices. The idea was to make sure there was no point of failure & that no industry player could restrict or control the innovations of any other. With that being said, where is Android headed for the future? That question resides with the developers that strive to make a mobile platform stronger, better, faster, and more reliable, than any other platform out there.
Peter Alfonso, well known and respected for his highly anticipated Bugless Beast releases, has a multitude of followers and countless supporters; spanning from Twitter to almost any and every public android forum. While there are many other developers out there that deserve the same amount of credit for their well respected releases, in my opinion, Peter Alfonso goes a step above and further, to provide the Droid users a mobile platform they have long come to depend on.
Now back to our question; where is Android headed? That truly rest in our hands; the users of the android platform. We as users must be able to convey the needs we have to educated developers like Peter in order for change to come. Unless you plan on developing your own platform yourself, I see no need in the bashing and undermining of qualified developers like Peter as he himself mentioned in his post. Developers like Peter have devoted and dedicated their own time to making our lives easier; time after time. He is not getting paid for his efforts and we should support him as he provides us with his stable releases.
Will BB 0.5 be the next long awaited stable release? I think if we are all reading this post, then we have already answered that question for ourselves. Like Peter’s headline says; let’s all support Peter in his journey across the Android platform. His endeavor will be our hope the Android platform remains free and open source for us all.
Peter, my thanks goes out to you for taking time to make our lives easier and for your dedication shown in your work.
Be positive and voice your opinions, support, and thanks here in the comments section for this developer and above all…

Hey Pete... I dont know what im doing wrong as ive never had an issue flashing any rom. Every time i try to flash your Froyo build i get massive FC before i even get the little green droid guy. Sorry to bother man but this is killing me... O_o
ReplyDelete@Anthony i recommended using MyBackup pro for doing backups
ReplyDeleteHey Pete, don't pay any attention to those BASHER CLOWNS! They just have a lot of hot "read jellosy" air. I thank you for all of your effort. I've been enjoying FROYO for a long time now, so much that I just take it for granted, not to mention Buggless Beast! Waiting for BB05. Hey speaking of such, any effort with the new leaked FRG22? Thanks again man! The anDROID world is much better with people like you!
ReplyDeleteWell said : Anonymous said...
ReplyDelete>> DROID DOES - BUT PETER ALFONSO DOES BETTER <<
I made my donation and very happy to do it. Thank you Pete.
ReplyDeletePete are you going to put any new stuff in the new BB0.5 that the OTA 2.2 does not have? If so, are you taking suggestions???
ReplyDeleteHey Pete,
ReplyDeleteI'm still running BB V1.1 on ESE81 2.1
Can i just directly download and install the FRG01B?
Hey Pete EXCELLENT job with android and "The Beast" as i call it.
ReplyDeleteGot a question though. Is it possible to get "THE Beast" for moto droid1 to recognize bigger batteries like the mugen 3300mah,seidio2600mah or such. Appreciate EVERYTHING U do for the android community. Thanks. JONATHON
Just installed. Thanks! Running great, but two quick questions... the "home" and "search" soft buttons have lost all functionality for me (short press and longpress.) I'm a bit of a noob so I am probably missing something obvious, but if anyone can tell me where I went wrong and how to reestablish function to these two soft buttons, i would be grateful.....
ReplyDeleteI can't believe this is going to be realesed to the masses when Pandora sounds like crap. I'm still on 2.1 and will be until this issue is fixed.
ReplyDeletePete, you're way too good to do what the haters have accused you of. Even if that could be done by someone, why? Anyways, I've used several different roms and just keep coming back to you. Can't wait for 0.5!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work and if you like Pete's work as much as I do donate!
I installing this ROM and everything works fine and i have root access but... I cannot reboot into SPrecovery anymore can anyone help me?? I have tried restoring backups and installing other ROMs but they will not take.
ReplyDeleteHelp.....I unrooted my phone back to the stock moto 2.1 and then manually installed the OTA 2.2. how do i get SPrecovery back so i can start flashing custom roms again?
ReplyDeletePete after the going to 2.2, my phone is now unrooted. How can I root my phone again? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI already installed the official 2.2,
ReplyDeletei wipe the data and cache, the I used your file, but the droid said the package is not correct,
please help me, what should I do?
thanks in advance
PV2SMURF @ GMAIL COM
ReplyDeleteCAN SOMEONE please direct me to the link to get this to work. but I manually updated to the OFFICIAL froyo 2.2 yesterday and I want WIFI hotspot so I figured I'd root but do I need to DOWNGRADE to a 2.1 rooted ROM to get petes to work? read in a forum that you have to be rooted for it to work? some help @pete?
How come my baseband stayed stock on frgo1bodexe when I updated?
ReplyDeleteI'm also wondering about the baseband.. Pete's is C_01.3E.01P where a non-rooted Droid manually updated is C_01.43.01P
ReplyDeleteFor those asking about the baseband: http://www.peteralfonso.com/2010/08/download-droid-ota-update-baseband.html
ReplyDeleteI have a mot droid 1. Updated to froyo without root in 2.1. Would like to root in 2.2. Can I use this file???
ReplyDeleteThe problem with the instructions for un rooted phones, you do not have the option to chose what to install, the file needs to be named update.zip cant choose one file then the other. I tried and I get unsigned error message.
ReplyDeleteHi Peter... what is your stance on upgrading from your FRG01B with root to your posted FRG22 in your download section?
ReplyDeleteMy post did not make sense: I have moto droid 1 that was on 2.1 without root: I updated too 2.2 and would like to root. Can I use your file to do this. (Untouched ESE81
ReplyDeleteOTA FRG01B Update)
Same question. I have a MOTO Droid 1 that was on 2.2 (Unrooted Stock FRG01B). Are there step by step direction on how to take your file and place it on the phone to have a Rooted Stock FRG01B ?
ReplyDeleteu need to root 2.1 first! Before you can have a rooted 2.2.
ReplyDeletesame here question here? DO I change the name of your file to " update.zip " and do a install from SD to get your 2.2 root access?
ReplyDeletepv2smurf @ gmail . com
Ive been searching ALL DAY for answers to this question.
ReplyDeleteIF WE INSTALLED FRG01B manually already, can we use this FRG22 file or do we have to have 2.1 rooted only?????????
THAT IS THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK!
Same question... If I manually updated to 2.2 is there a way to now root the phone and try out custom ROMS without going back to 2.1?
ReplyDeleteI'm curious too. I was on the unrooted 2.1, manually updated to unrooted 2.2. I want to be on Petes uber 2.2 build. What are the steps needed to get your rooted 2.2. Thanks in advance Pete (or others for that matter.)
ReplyDeleteWhat is the difference between Odexed and DeOdexed?
ReplyDelete@Pete
ReplyDeleteYou should start a bidding for being the first person to get the BB V.5 highest bidder donates there bid and gets to be the first with new version to help support your great work !
Pete, I installed FRG10B and now the Bugless Beast tool will not install. It says that my "operating system" is not a bugless beast system and therefore it will not install. Do I just need to wait until 0.5 is released?
ReplyDeleteKeep on Keepin on
Damn, man - you're a machine! Thanks, I was sweating not having 2.2 for a couple hours there...
ReplyDeleteThanks Pete!!!!! Ive been waiting for update but im rooted already you always seem to know what us Droid users need and you explain very well, i love the last step "sit in corner and feel ashamed" I love your humor and knowledge output thanks again man!
ReplyDeleteAnswer to all those asking about rooting 2.2 This A.M. Droid-life announced that "Easy Root" now works with 2.2 Downloaded it and it worked like a charm. Only bummer is restoring all of my home screens after doing a fresh install. Hope to see some speed increase after all this work. Thanks Pete! Can't wait to try out BB V.5!
ReplyDeletecan someone please help, i just finished the process that Pete layed out on the top of page, my phone is now 2.2 and i have superuser permissions, but rom manager premium and setcpu both say i dont have rooted access, if anyone could lend a hand id be most gratefull!!
ReplyDeleteIm not sure how to reach anyone but my i installed the untoched ese81 from above and i didnt name the other zip "update" so my phone wouldnt instal it. now it wont boot past the moto m and i dont have clockwork on there just sprecovery i dont know what to do. I installed the untouched ese81 just fine but the other file aborted and my phone is just stuck on M still. anybody have an idea?
ReplyDeleteNo wipe...installed from BB 0.04 no problem. I like BB better so I can only imagine whats in store for v0.5.
ReplyDeleteI followed all of your steps and wiped date/cache. After reboot I still have SU installed but no more root access...Does this not work? i would like to donate for all the hard work but thus far i cant get 2.2 and keep root. please if you could lend a hand d.mills216@gmail.com Thanks for anything and everything
ReplyDeleteI have a question please. I had an unrooted stock 2.1 MotoDroid1. I followed the instructions on androiforums, downloaded the FRG01b file, renamed to update.zip, held X and applied update. I now have 2.2 FRG01b. I haven't done anything else.
ReplyDeleteAm I rooted now? I don't really want to be.
Will I get OTA updates from Verizon to install FRG22? If not, should I install FRG22 from somewhere? Would that then make me rooted or still stock and manually applied?
@rqballjh,
ReplyDeleteYou are still stock. And yes you will still receive OTA updates. I got a question for you, how did you find out about my site? Just wondering :)
LOL, I found out about you during the FRG01b frenzy last week on androidforums. I was out of town on business and downloading the file from their instructions. Someone said they heard you were "up" from your nap (on vacation), rooted 2.2 in 15 minutes and went back to sleep. I said to myself, now there's a dedicated guy who a) knows his stuff and b) loves what he is doing; so I'm going to check out his stuff. apparently you've garnered quite a deal of respect from the moderators there. I'm an old mainframe programmer turned systems analyst of sorts so I know your enthusiasm to play and do neat cool stuff that people like.
ReplyDeleteThere's a link on droidforums.net to FRG22 and various ways to apply it. I'll copy the link below. Do you think I should follow the intrstructions to update to 22 from 01b? This would still make me unrooted, correct?
Deodexed and non-deodexed is rooted vs non-rooted correct?
I'm really considering rooting once I get 22 running and stable, due to the cools stuff you can do, just quite apprehensive as I MUST have my phone for work.
thanks again for your attention and looking forward to your response.
Also, on your d/l page you have Stock FRG22, then at the botom you have the OTA updates and FRG22 but say you don't have that. What's the difference between "stock" and "OTA" on your d/l page?
ReplyDeleteDo I apply the stock 22 from your d/l link just like I did 01b? ie - rename to update.zip, copy to root of SD, hold x while powering on then select update from SD?
Also, when you're done with my annoying noob questions, maybe you can point me somewhere I can get a "root for dummies" primer. I think I heard you're the mastermind behind Pete's Bugless Beast, true? Im just wondering how hard it is to root and what all can be done once rooted. Is BB a paid app/system?
ReplyDeleteHey Pete,
ReplyDeleteProbably get this all the time. This is a desperate attempt to get an idiot's guide to rooting. I'm running the FRG01B manual update. Want to root my phone pretty bad. Need help!
I've downloaded your stock FRG22 odexed as well as the FRG22-Release.zip from mydroidfiles. Both get a Sig verification failed error. Tried multiple times from both sites as well as on the phone itself. Same result every time. Some on androidforums are getting the same thing.
ReplyDeleteAny ideas?
i just applied the newest froyo rooted rom, but i forgot to do a reset and now my phone is stuck cycling between the flashing droid eye and the droid logo, help please
ReplyDeleteI did the update just as you said, coming rooted bbv0.4, and now its not rooted anymore. Any ideas on how to keep what i have but get root access. Will donate if helped.
ReplyDeletePeter,
ReplyDeleteI used your hater instructions and it worked like a charm. Thank you for your work. It is appreciated.
Do you have to rename both files to update.zip to install?
ReplyDeleteI updated and found myself no longer rooted. At least terminal doing "su" gives me access denied. So, I tried EastRoot and it claims I'm already rooted. However, it fails to unroot me too.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions???
Peter,
ReplyDeleteI like the file and it worked great until verizon released frg01b officially. Once the release came, the 3g was spotty and the connection to the market was unreliable. Any ideas on this? I have tried also tried a rooted frg22 and had the same thing happen. I am going to try going to an unrooted version to see if that fixes the issue. I will post an update if that fixes it.
thanks!
Can I install the deodexed version over the odexed one. If not, how do I get the deodexed one installed? Thanks for any help
ReplyDeleteWhen will we see "Droid OTA Update Froyo Rooted Full ROM (FRG22)", or is that what is on your download page? Can this be applied over Droid OTA Update Froyo Rooted Full ROM (FRG01B)?
ReplyDeleteMissing lots of apps from the market. Any suggestions? ...frg22 with c_01.43.01p baseband update.
ReplyDeleteHey! Pete,
ReplyDeleteI can't update my phone to Froyo 2.2 (neither FRG01b nor others), my phone is currently on 2.1update1 and my Phone info (from About Phone) is as follows;

Firmware configuration verification: GAS_EMEA_USASHLSRTINT_P016
Baseband version: 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.56I

kERNEL VERSION: 2.6.29-OMAP1
milestcm@il93lnxebld05 #1

And I got following messages while updating the official 2.2 update (from ESE81 to FRG01B, non-rooted)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Can someone help me to install the FRG22D? Do I
ReplyDeleteinstall the OTA Update (+ FRG22D from FRG01B *) or the Stock System Files (ROMs) (+ FRG22D (Odexed) (DeOdexed) *)?
I tried installing the OTA Update (that Pete just uploaded) using SPA Recovery, but it failed.
Pete OR ANYONE ELSE WHO CAN HELP ME... I have the Droid1 Rooted with 2.2 Froyo FRG01B, I am getting a system update for FRG22D, if I install this OTA update I will lose root access. Any suggestions on how to install this update and stay rooted?????
ReplyDeleteI tried install the OTA and it failed. I then used the FRG22D Odexed. It installed by I lost root and cannot get it back. I cannot even boot into recovery anymore and I started with your FRG01B. Plus the OTA FRG22D was supposed to work per your instructions but it didn't!!!!
