Download: Droid OTA Update Baseband (C_01.43.01P)

This should have been included in my previous post releasing the rooted OTA FRG01B but I was too focused on camping to think about it. Unfortunately it caused a bit of confusion for some readers. These readers asked why the new baseband was not included in the ROM I had posted. The simplest answer to this question is that they each replace/update seperate "sections" of files on your device. A standard ROM never updates your baseband because it could become a hassle if the user has already updated the baseband and/or activation may be required each time the ROM is installed.

For those of you who may not know, basebands are said to improve signal and battery life in some cases. You should always upgrade to the latest one available. To check which baseband your Droid is currently running go to Menu > Settings > About Phone > Baseband Version.

Although the latest baseband (C_01.43.01P) has been available for roughly two months now, it was officially pushed OTA on the 3rd of this month. As always, it is a good practice to use the officially pushed files rather than those that have been floating around for quite some time. They may be labeled the same but there is a chance that they could be slightly different.

I have extracted the new baseband directly from the FRG01B OTA update that came from Google's servers and packaged it for you to be able to download and flash to your rooted Droid. I am currently running this baseband and 3G coverage seems to be more reliable than before.

Installation Instructions (Using ClockworkMod Recovery):
1. Download C_01.43.01P.zip
2. Place on sdcard
3. Boot into recovery mode
4. Choose and install C_01.43.01P.zip (Do not wipe data & cache!)
5. Reboot your Droid
6. Dial *22891 To update your roaming capabilities (optional)

*Note: If you are using SPRecovery then you must name the file you wish to install "update.zip"

  2. Pete ...

You are simply amazing. By the way, I love the new baseband update. 3G speeds are very good!

  3. Pete,

Can't you do a comparison of the files to see if they're binary identical?

  4. Pete Was in the differences on the Base-bands??
I have root my phone (currently running BB0.4) vut I have never installed any base-bands since I don't really understand why is the need to do it, now you say that this base bands comes on the OTA so my question is do I need to install it? what will I gain by doing so?

  5. Jeeves, yeah but for me that takes more time than just flashing the OTA file

  6. @Orly,
Basebands are said to improve signal, battery life, and a few other things. Always update to the latest when it is available.

  7. This is very cool, but I was curious - can this be applied over any previous version, or are there intermediate prerequisite versions I need to install first?

  8. Thanks Pete for ur quick response, so I guess I'll be installing this new Baseband
    keep the good work dude
I am a Droid user since Nov 6 (that is when Moto Droid released) and I got to say this phone was great even before rooting but now with rooting this phones ROCKS thanks to you and all the developers
">> DROID DOES - BUT PETER ALFONSO DOES BETTER <<" I agree!!!!!!

  9. It can be applied over any, no prerequisite required.

  10. Pete is this like your other one, flash over ANY baseband?

  11. think we posted at the same time, thanks pete

  12. @Jeeves

I did a md5sum check comparing the file Pete posted vs an older C_01.43.01P that I had and they came out to be different. So like Pete said it is better to reflash it with the official release even if the version numbers are listed as the same.

  13. Hey Pete

Just going out on limb here but I'm assuming the baseband wont change if moto and big red change the now on hold ota froyo. and second is BBV 0.5 gonna be based on the current OTA or the new leaked one

  14. Does this need to be renamed update.zip in order to install if?? Sorry for the dumb question....

    ReplyDelete
  15. Are the instructions posted for use with ClockWork Recovery? I'm using SPRecovery, so I would need to rename C_01.43.01P.zip to update.zip first, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I tried to do this but when I boot into sp recovery it does not give me an option to install this file it just gives me the option to install the latest update.zip file I have

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Rick & @Sandman,
If you are using sprecovery everything needs to be renamed to update.zip, its a hassle. That's why I switched to clockwork.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I did this and now my phone keeps resetting or freezing up. What do I do?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Pete,
I managed to dig up the "all in one" baseband update you had previously. Comparing with 1bp shows a lot of differences, but compared with 2bp.img it's 99% binary identical. The beginning and ends are smaller and differ.

Two things seen in the old one and not in the new one: "QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.01P Monster 02" and "VERIZON_DEVEL"

Things are definitely different. Keep up the good work!

  21. So do i rename both the rom to update.zip and also the baseline also to update.zip? So in essence there will be 2 update.zip's on the root of my SD card? How would I distinguish between them on sp recovery?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Or do one then the other being the rom first then go back and do the same procedure for the baseline? allow update.zip and such?

    ReplyDelete
  23. @John,
yes you can do that or install "ROM Manager" from the market and flash clockworkmod recovery, it will make things way easier.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So if I'm on BBv0.4 do i need to install this new baseband?

    ReplyDelete
  25. One more question... whats the difference between odexed and deodexed?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Don't know yet if this offers any improvements over the previous version available through ROM manager, but the install was quick and painless, and always better to be up to date. Thanks Pete! Looking forward to V.05 :)

  27. just curious..

If you do not root, you could go from 2.1 to 2.2 with no wiping of data and cache, it just installs & away you go all is still there as you left it: apps, settings, preferences, etc. No time wasted putting back apps and settings.

SO, why is it important to do the wipe and delete if you root? What's the difference between updating the software via an OTA and doing it via root?

  28. I tried this new baseband Pete just put out but decided to go back to old C_01.3E.03P cause the GPS was way off for me.

  29. Peter, having an issue installing C_01.43.01P over C_01.41.00R. i am using sprecovery on your FRG22(odexed). renamed C_01.43.01P to update.zip. error is as follows:
    ...
    Brought to you by pete...
    assert failed: sholes.update_cdma_bp(tmp/2rdl.bin", "/tmp/2bp.img")
    E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
    (status 7)
    installation aborted

    any ideas? - thanks

  30. Hey, I have a Droid on flashed to MetroPcs, If i apply this update, Will i have to reflash my phone completely? Or just sign into my google account.

  31. I installed it but I'm having problems. I dialed the number and told me it's activating my phone. But the activation is not working...help?

  32. hey Pete I just noticed that the new baseband changed my WifiMac address, I don't know if that was supposed to happen but I don't really care but now the new wifimac address starts with f8 (instead of 00) which doesn't quite works on my router to filter it (so I can use the wifi but mi sister not) but when I added to the filter I get that the wifi adress must start with 00, and yes I tried adding 00 before the address but that doesn't work coz is the too long.
SO here the question is, is a problem with my router not reconigzing that wifimac address and I have to live with it? anyone else noticing this?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oops thought this was the old one that required you to activate your phone.
This is similar to the one I created.
One thing though *22899 reactivates and then updates roaming capabilities
The number to just update roaming capabilities is *22891

  34. @Dmartins,
Thanks for the tip, didnt know that!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Pete, could you figure out a way to include wireless tether to this rooted 2.2?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Pete:

This update does not ask you to activate when it is installed. Should activate it anyway? ie. *22899? Thanks.

Love the work you do, and appreciate it very much.

  42. I updated to your OTA rooted Froyo 2.2. My wifi hotspot APP worked great the speed doubled from rooted 2.1. I then added the new bandwidth zip file 1.043 and the speed went back down by more than 50%. What do you feel I need to do?

  43. Just wanted to let you know that I have FRG22, I saw you wanted that file and there was no contact button on your site that i could find.

  44. Pete just had to share this. I tried previous baseband updates and going back to older versions but always had horrible signal strength in my home compared to my wifes unrooted droid. Often 2 or more bars less inches from hers. Thanks to you I can now use my phone in my house and I finally rooted my wifes Droid. Thank you!

Hope you don't mind I've been sharing this link on another forum or 2.

  47. Pete, is this baseband intended for Droid X? Wiped data/cache, etc. but still get this error when trying to install with clockwork: Writing RDL/BP image... E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 0) Installation Aborted

    Thank you for your help.

  48. Worked like a charm, I missed the sentence about "A standard ROM never updates your baseband because it could become a hassle if the user has already updated the baseband". I've been on the original version this entire time! I didn't have to re-activate.
