I had a lot more plans for GPA17 but because of the reasons mentioned above, I am having to release a bit early. I assure you that you will still find this build to be everything you have come to love in the GPA series.
For those not familiar with this ROM series, some of it's features include:
- 180 degree rotation
- Overclockable kernel
- CPU toolkit (can be removed by deleting "Toolkit.apk")
- FLAC audio support
- Ad-hoc network support
- Facebook sync
- Reboot option
- "Copy All" text option
- Low battery sound toggle
- Modified widget picker
- Headset/headphone icon in statusbar
- Latest Google apps
- Busybox
- Bug fixes/code improvement from CyanogenMod
I would also like to announce with the release of GPA17 that my ROM is now fully open source. For those interested in compiling my ROM please visit the following link for instructions on how to begin: https://github.com/peteralfonso/platform_manifest
If you have fully read this entire post and have made it here, I'd like to thank you with the download links!
GPA17:
*Note: Wipe data/cache (factory reset) if this is the first time installing a ROM from this series*
When I do find some time for Android, I will be working on a changelog and I will post it here when it is complete.

FIRST!
ReplyDelete"Wipe data/cache (factory reset) if this is the first time installing a ROM from this series" - By series do you mean the GPA17 nightly builds or do you mean the GPA series? Can I update from GPA16 to GPA17 in place without the reset (I'd prefer to do this). Thanks!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous, should be good with just a dalvik cache wipe but if you have any problems do a full wipe.
ReplyDeleteGreat Pete! Is this any different than the Aug 19 nightly? Installing asap :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Pete, your work is MUCH appreciated.
ReplyDeletequick question, does this have better radio than stock coz frankly stock is crappy in my area...
ReplyDelete@Musie, my ROM does not overwrite radios, you can find radios in my "Downloads" section of the site.
ReplyDeleteThe 3 links have different file sizes. What is the difference?
ReplyDeleteI got error Status 7.
Did I download the wrong update for OG Droid?
Good work Peter, I love your rom,,,
ReplyDeleteQuick question, Does GPA17 support Arabic text like Cmod7?
Please reply, thanks.
After downloading all 3 and inspecting build.prop, I installed the Sholes download and that worked. I'm guessing the other 2 are for Nexus S and 4G (Respectively)
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your hard work, and best of luck at college!
ReplyDeleteAre there any plans to release this latest kernel in overclockable form?
Is it possible to install android 2.3.5 on samsung galaxy pro?
ReplyDeleteyou're the man Pete, good stuff you've had ever since Bugless Beasts earliest releases.
ReplyDelete@MAILER - This is for the Original Motorola Droid. You'd most likely brick your phone if you install this on anything aside from the OG
ReplyDeleteOMG, this is wonderful! Whoever said Gingerbread can't run on Droid 1 got proven WRONG!
ReplyDeleteYou, sir, are a genius!
Wow. Running very smooth right out of the gate. Loving the GPA Roms. Great work, Pete!
ReplyDeleteWhy is the build number GRJ90 instead of GPA17?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous, I didn't edit the build.prop before uploading it. GRJ90 is the true build number from Google.
ReplyDeleteGracia por la rom thanks
ReplyDeleteI d/l and installed your v0.3 kernel with my GPA16 and it was labeled 2.6.32.9 #3. The kernel with GPA17 calls itself 2.6.32.9 #2. Is the kernel that comes with GPA17 older?
ReplyDeleteWhen this first came out, I remember thinking, "Um...why are all these lunatics losing their shit over an effing ROM?" After I installed it, I would have forgiven them for posting in tongues.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. It's smooth to the point that the touchscreen feels like it was retextured with magical, velvety glass.
Best in show.
Thanks so much for the hard work man!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with this next block of school.
I, for one, greatly appreciate all you contribute to the android community!
Very clean and fast rom. The most stable rom for nexus s. But there is one feature I miss in the kernel. Please can you add UTF8 support??
ReplyDeletethank you for what you have done and continue to do! good luck in this new semester.
ReplyDeletePete good luck at school and thanks for this last update. I am going to miss checking for your nightlies for awhile. This build is awesome you made my d1 tolerable until I can pickup another phone. I'm looking foward to the new kernels also. And I just downloaded your baseband thanks for all you have done.
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping my OG Droid running great. You make the best ROMs on the planet. PERIOD.
ReplyDeletewill this run on the droid x2?
ReplyDelete@lxiq: negative ghost rider, do not engage.
ReplyDelete@pete: thank you sir, as soon as i get a job i shall donate something. in the meantime, i have a bad esn D2 (can be put on cricket aka crooked) that i could donate if you want. email me back if so and i'll ship it out.
@JasonU, what is your email address? Mine is pete@android.net
ReplyDeleteGreat roms, will upgrade from GPA17. Question, I am running .03P baseband is there a better radio? It does not detail each one in the download section.
ReplyDeleteOnce again Pete you've got a great one! It's faster and smoother than GPA16 so far for me. The phone app bugs seem to be fixed too. Another donation coming your way!
ReplyDeleteHi peter I am a rookie in rooting. Well I rooted my dx and overclocked and running gingerbread. But I am still st a loss at trying to root my two OG DROID and wanted to update them to gingerbread. I love my OG's and don't want to let them go to waste and was wondering if you could guide me to where I can find the steps or is you can tell me yourself how to do it I would greatly appreciate it since I am also trying to root my girlfriend's htc incredible to gingerbread as well but need to root first also. So if you could guide me yourself in the right path to rooting for these phones I would be more than exhilarated to try it on my phones
ReplyDeleteI want to try this update on my two OG DROIDs but I don't know how to root this phones. Im just a rookie but I have successfully rooted and flashed and overclocked my DX I have also an htc incredible that I also wanna root and flash gingerbread on that as well bit also need to learn how to root that phone. But if you could possibly guide me in the right direction with the steps on how to root my phones I would greatly appreciate it. My phones are stock (OG and incredible) and my email is omdmx86@gmail.com. please if you could help me out I would be incredibly thankful
ReplyDeletePete, this latest release seems smooth and stable after one day of use. Thanks again for all your hard work.
ReplyDeleteThe last nightly (8/19) got very slow after a few days on my D1. It got so the screen refreshes took up to 30 seconds. Hopefully this won't repeat on this version.
Good luck in class. I Loke forward to your new kernels.
@d63h - i have same question - which do we download for OG as they are all 3 different sizes???
ReplyDeletefor OG you want the SHOLES one. GPA 17 running fantastic on my OG Droid. Thanks Pete!
ReplyDeletePete do you plan to release the kernels as a separate package? I am assuming these are 0.4 and not 0.3
ReplyDelete@Sexy Mexi-try googling it or search youtube.
ReplyDeletelooking forward to some v0.4 kernels also
ReplyDeletein case anyone was wondering, the kernel here appears to be the same as the 8/19 build.
Pete,
ReplyDeleteAnother fine release~ I wish you luck when school!
Do I need to apply the AutoOverClock.zip on this too?
Peter is Rock and Roll ! Thanks for your Great and I Think best Roms for Nexus.
ReplyDeleteGO ON !
"assert failed: getprop ("ro.prop.device") == "crespo4g" ll getprop("ro.product.device") == "crespo4g"
ReplyDeleteE: error in /sdcard/pete_crespo4g_08_30_11.zip
(status 7)" <---- got this error when i tried flashing in recovery , downloaded twice and still same error
can anyone help ????
Thanks Peter, running great!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous on the Droid, you need the sholes one, not the crespo.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous which phone are you trying to flash that on?
ReplyDeleteYou are using the wrong file. Its not crespo its the other...
ReplyDeleteto sir alfonso: sir can it be flash this ROM in galaxy mini running 2.3.4?
ReplyDeletePete,
ReplyDeleteI've been running GPA17 for a day and all I can say is WOW! I don't think my phone ever performed so great~ Thank you for this!!!
So far so good! I was having a few problems with 2.3.4(mostly screen redraws and stability issues) but so far this seems to have fixed it!
ReplyDeleteRuns smooth as silk on my OGD. Thank you very much, Pete.
ReplyDeleteI wonder now that given the demands of your schooling, and given that my OGD is really pretty old, and wondrous toys like the Droid Prime are in the works, whether this will be my last Pete ROM. If so, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE! I've been flashing every update you've posted for what feels like about 18 months or so. It's been a great ride.
Thank you.
Very smooth and stable, good on battery and everything else glides. I couldn't b happier. Thanks again for all ur hard work and good luck in college. I can't wait for your new kernels. As always, continue being perfectionately awesome!
ReplyDeletePete, I'd like to begin by greatly thanking you for all your hard work towards the OG Droid. Your work is amazing, Best stock rom period! I'd also like to ask you if you would ever consider building roms for the HTC Evo?
ReplyDeleteWhat scripts can i run with this and will gpa 17have a bash file if not can you help me create one?
ReplyDeleteJust tried gpa 17 coming from 16 and i have 1 question since you have to be rooted to flash these is the version of google video the version that bypasses the check for root?
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up, this will run on the Motorola Milestone A854 (The CDMA one which is just a re-branded Droid), but you need to factory reset and then flash with clockwork. I'd also make a nandroid backup before hand.
ReplyDeleteMotorola Milestone A854 working great here with this release.
ReplyDeletePlease update BB based on this release (at least before we all upgrade to 4G phones) ;) and please with the option to use the original android boot logo.
Thanks!
Awesome.... thanks a bunch. One question, what mode would one recommend for the rom. Right now I have it on "conservative", are there any breakdowns as what the other modes do? Like what the differences are between "on demand" and "interactive"?
ReplyDeleteIf you are on an og droid interactive is best personally. Scroll back through old posts on the website of older versions of the kernel or the rom and I believe Pete explains thoroughly why he prefers it and the changes he has made to make it the best
ReplyDeleteThis is my 3rd ROM and by far the best ROM for the OG Droid. Very stable and full featured without all the bloat. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am getting a new phone soon bionic or may wait for prime if it isn't a rumor. Anyway I am going to sell the phone and if I do I want to leave gpa 17 on it and rooted. My concern is my passwords etc on certain sites. Can I do a full wipe and reinstall gpa 17 to set this back to (for lack of a better word) ur factory settings on gpa 17. In a nutshell I want to leave rooted and ur rom but not have the buyer be able to access any of my personal stuff like factory reset.
ReplyDeleteHow is everyone's battery life with this?
ReplyDeleteis this rom compatible with the nexus s 4g from sprint and if not does anybody know any roms that are because it is very hard to find one for it
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if there are any themes for this?
ReplyDelete@davev - just do a factory reset and it will clear all data and your apps but leave GPA17 on the device.
ReplyDelete@brinkleyj, yes its compatible with the nexus s 4g. choose the download link called "crespo4g"
ReplyDeleteForgive my ignorance: I was always running a "chevy" 1.2GHz low voltage kernal, so 1GHz is a step back for emulators.
ReplyDeleteCan I go into clockwork mod recovery and install that somehow?
Thanks much, great rom!
I have a doubt. Does this ROM have the nexus (crespo) binaries for Android 2.3.5?. I'm interested in NFC.
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance
@ whoever asking about the kernel-
ReplyDeleteYou can install any kernel that you want. Use the install from zip option in clockwork mod.
ROCK N ROLL PETE! Fantastic ROM.
ReplyDeleteLong story short, I am working on a couple of OG Droids currently running GPA16. I want to upgrade them to GPA17, but I also want to set up Apps2ext since the device's internal memory is so low. Will this be an issue? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111135&highlight=apps2ext
ReplyDeleteThe attachment on this forum post is bsically what I am planning to do. I have not done this before so I am a bit hesitant to try it for the first time on a custom ROM.
Wow Pete, this ROM just gave new life to my OG droid. I was about ready to call it quits on my droid and get a bionic, but I can definitely wait now. My phone runs SO MUCH BETTER AND FASTER with gingerbread than it EVER did with Froyo! I ran into some snags with some apps that I needed to uninstall and reinstall, but all is well thus far!
ReplyDeleteFinally installed GPA17 and ,holy crap, my battery life is back to amazing! Why did I ever leave this ROM? Thanks Pete and good luck with school!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the new rom. Before on my nexus s the bottom 4 keys used to vibrate on being pressed. Now with this rom they don't. How do I make them vibrate again on being pressed?. Also how do I disable 180 degree rotation? Thanks again. God bless you.
ReplyDeletethanks for your work - this is awesome. I can use my phone without battery worries! About that FLAC support though - my extension mananger isn't recognizing FLAC and I'm not able to add it. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteThanks for a kick ass rom! Running my Nexus S @ 800mhz, superb battery life and it stills runs snappy.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to future releases! Keep up the good work :)
first off thank you for your hard work and dedication as you can tell you have helped alot of people. ive had BB on my old og droid for over a year and it works great. but ive ran into a small problem. im trying to wifi teather to my new toshiba thrive with no sucess. something to do with ad hoc instead of infrastructure as far as I can figure out. ? question is if I update to gpa17 will that fix it? email me @ harrisonhotrods@gmail plz and thanks again.
ReplyDeletePete, you are awesome! Best wishes in school!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pete..
ReplyDeleteYour work is so awesome...
I love your code...
Hay thanks for all hard work in the 2.3.5 rom for nexus s 4g. Question will the new radio you posted work with 2.3.5 or do you have to update to the last 2.3.7
ReplyDeleteNo need to buy a Bionic now, this old Droid works great!
ReplyDeleteThanks again Peter. Sent another donation your way.
ReplyDeleteHey Pete first off thank you for all your great work. I successfully flashed this latest update on my OG Droid and so far it looks like it's running gracefully. Now I only had a question. I love in Indiana (South Bend) to be exact. I wanted to know if anyone knew what radio I should flash in order to get better reception?
ReplyDeleteWait does this work on Droid 2 Global? If so, Which Download?
ReplyDeleteI installed this on both my wife's and my OG droid and we love the way it breathed life back into our old sturdy but slow devices. However now our netflix does not seem to login. Now it could be an issue with netflix although i see none posted anywhere.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else have this issue? Maybe i need a different apk for netflix...
Love this build compared to the stock VZW crap. I can't hardly believe they actually want people to run the stuff on their phones.
Thank you so much. Brilliant and great work.
ReplyDeleteI feel that my Droid 1 is Faster and it feels like i have a new phone now.
How do I download this for a motorola droid? The only options are
ReplyDeleteGPA17:
Crespo | Crespo4G | Sholes
I used to use the GPA gingerbread ones on my motorola droid 1, I am so confused now.
Are there any "improvements" available for the Samsung Droid Charge out there that someone can direct me to? Phone slows down dramatically when the amt. of apps installed increase.
