Download: 900MHz Overclocked Gingerbread Kernel

Who dares test my first kernel? If you are willing let me go ahead and state a disclaimer, flash this at your own risk! I will not be held responsible if your phone explodes, catches on fire, your girlfriend dumps you, etc. I literally just made this kernel so I have not had time to fully test it, things may be broken! Having said that, this kernel still needs a few features, but I think for my first effort, its pretty darn good. After flashing many kernels through the time I have owned my Droid I have never been satisfied with the slots available, so I modified the slots to my liking; 175, 275, 400, 500, 600, 750, and 900 MHz. I have included all of the popular scaling  governors; interactive, conservative, userspace, powersave, ondemand, and performance. For now, the voltage levels remain completely stock, I feel I need to educate myself a bit more before I decide what levels I will be satisfied with. For those of you running my stock Gingerbread ROM this kernel will automatically set is maximum frequency to 900 and its minimum frequency to 175 at boot via a script I created. The default governor that will be applied is ondemand. If you wish to change any of these settings you may need a cpu application such as "SetCPU" by Michael Huang. Again, for those on my ROM, typing "cpuinfo" into the terminal will print out a list of details that you may be interested in. Future features will come with time, compcache, processor temperature reporting, and time in state stats, are on the priority list.

Please note that this .zip is not in the "anykernel.zip" format by Koush meaning it was created to work on my Gingerbread ROM. If you flash this on someone else's Gingerbread ROM, it may not work. This will absolutely not work on any Froyo ROM so do not even try it. Also note, this will only work on the Droid 1, if you try to flash it on any other device it will fail.

Special thanks goes out to raidzero for answering my questions! Apparently I was compiling the wrong wifi module at first, no wonder it wasn't working...

  1. Does this mean that these are not "Ultra Low Voltage" and have the possibility of running warmer than most ULV kernels?

  2. It simply means it is stock, it does not mean that the temperature will change. Actually it is good that is stock because there is no voltage increase, resulting in less heat theoretically as opposed to increased voltage for the 900mhz slot.

  3. Excellent! Happy to test this! Would you like feedback? If so, where should I send?

  4. I read every comment :)

  5. Hey Peter! I flashed and booted with no problem! You did a great job

  6. Hey pete, I am running your kernel on gpa12 with no ill effect so far. I can't really tell a difference between this and chevys ulv 1.0 kernel speed wise. The only think I noticed so far is that set cpu does not display cpu temp, only batt temp. I will let you know if anything else pops up and also for battery life. Thanks for all of your time and effort.

  7. Seems to be working like a charm. Nice addition.

  8. Pete, as always love your work. Going to give it a spin and look forward to your future releases. Dont let the schoolwork suffer though ;)

  10. Peter,
Thanks for the great gingerbread rom. I am a little confused on installing kernals. I downloaded to 1gtz one from your initial post. Do I install it in ClockworkMod? Thanks for you help.

  11. @Eric, install with ClockWorkMod as you would with a ROM except do not wipe (if you do you will erase the ROM)

  12. I've tried a lot of kernels.they either work or they don't. Yours works! And I like the idea of a kernel that's matched (and tested) to a given rom. Btw - your stock rom is awesome. I've abandoned cm7 until it catches up to you. Together, this combo is smooth reliable and really fast.

  13. Going to give it a shot, I will report back later with my findings.

  14. Pete, I swapped the Slayher 1100 for yours. Phone seems to be as fast. Great work dude. Compcache? ?? !!!!

  15. Compcache will come, have to get homework done and study. Im already testing out a 1Ghz kernel I made and it is blazing fast. I disabled some more debugging, changed the slots, and messed with the voltage values to match the slots I created.

  16. The only thing I have noticed is a slow stratup from an off screen. Running GPA12 with kernel set to 275-900 powersave with screen off. Other wise works great and just as fast as the 1000 kernel. Can't wait for the next bugless beast!

  17. its pretty slow. i went back to the slayher 1ghz kernel u suggested. ima wait till u release your own 1ghz kernel

  18. Hey Peter! Love your site and all you do! Keep it up!! Any thoughts on the new 4g line from Verizon. You planning to make the switch from Droid 1 to a 4g device?? If so, which one???

  19. Peter, I installed the GPA12 with the 2.6.32.9_1Ghz Kernel and I have not looked back. This is running flawlessly on my Droid. I have abandoned trying out any other roms until I get a new phone. Everything works...even the phone (which is sometimes lost in other custom ROMS)! A million thanks for your sacrifice to make our equipment run the way its supposed to. I am not just buying you a beer, look for a 12 pack coming your way via my donation. Good luck on your studies...

  20. @ Machew-

With all the great stuff Peter has come out with lately, I wouldn't be surprised if the next version of BB comes with an option to convert the Droid 1 INTO a 4G device! :)

In all seriousness, thank you Peter for all your great contributions. Bugless was my first experience with custom rom, right after I summoned the courage to root. Since then, I have tried many others- but have always ended up back using something of yours. Like many others, GPA12 has been the best thing that ever happened to my phone. Just about to try GPA13, and anxiously await the next Bugless Beast. Thanks again for all your hard work, and cheers for diving in to kernels.
