Download: Gingerbread Goodies (From Nexus S System Dump)

The Android Community was pretty excited today upon receiving the system dump from the Nexus S. For the end user this means little to nothing, but to devs this can bring a couple hours of fun, or even a lengthy project to create a fully functional ROM. Either way, I couldn't wait for its download to complete. The system dump comes odexed (most stock phones do) so I chose a few apps to work on, deodexed, zipaligned, and signed them. The ones I found most interesting are...

Microbes Live Wallpaper: "Life under the microscope"

I really like this live wallpaper, it displays Google colored microbes swimming around looking for food to eat. So install this, and tap the screen to drop some food, they are hungry!

The next two apps are updated versions of apps we currently have, but im bringing them to you a bit early because they are not available in the Market yet. Because of that, we won't know the exact changes but you can rest assure that they are ready for prime time since they are from a retail device. Enjoy...

P.S. Although I do these things to learn and for the pure fun of it, I did get a ticket last night (forgot to renew my tag). If you would like to help me out with the expense, checkout my donate button in the sidebar. Thanks!

  8. Can you post the Clock.apk as it seems the Quick Search when you do "set alarm" will open Clock.apk except you can't click on the mic icon in the Clock app unless you had the one from Gingerbread.

  9. @ben
i have an x and all i do is use rom manager to reboot into recovery, although i do agree with you because making them installable will make everyone's lives much easier

  10. @ben and anonymous,
they're system apps, so making them installable is kind of a pain, and some ungodly percent of the people that tried to do it would do it incorrectly and then spam the blog with complaints about how it was crap and didn't work, and all they got was force closes all day and night. update=much simpler solution.

  12. Pete, i tried the lwp and it looks really cool but it slows down my launcher quite a bit (launcher pro). It's mainly noticeable when swiping to switch screens. D1 running BB 0.5 Chevy lv 1.1ghz

  13. Got the carhome installed after I mistakenly uninstalled the original. Lost the carhome launcher and had to re-install from market. Installed Pete's again and now have 2.2.1 with lots of shortcut boxes.

  14. Pete, would you consider making a BB boot logo built in to BBv0.6 to replace the Moto 'M'? We'd all prefer http://www.talkandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/bugless-beast.png

    Thanks

  15. Maybe I'm a bit behind the times Pete! I just received my new Droid X, and understand the bootloader is locked down. I'm not sure if you have solved this problem and can load BB 0.5, just wanting to know if this is possible and if so, how to go about it. Thanks!

P.S. BB 0.5 has been awesome on my Droid 1
