Download: Droid Kernels V0.3

It's been two full months since my last kernel set, I'd say we are overdue for an update! A lot of work went into these and I am extremely happy with the results, hopefully you will be too...

Features:
  • Low (LV), standard (SV), and increased (IV) voltages
  • Interactive governor ported from .38 kernel
  • Newest compcache module: zram.ko
  • USB switches from .35 kernel
  • Increased sdcard throughput (faster read/write speeds)
  • Bug fixes from upstream/newer kernels
  • Built in OMAP temperature sensor
  • All of the official governors
  • Lightweight, stripped of unneeded features
  • Added most popular, requested modules and features
  • 5 CPU slots rather than 7 (better performance)

Download:
  • 600MHz   | LV | SV | IV | 125/250/500/550/600
  • 700MHz   | LV | SV | IV | 250/500/550/600/700
  • 800MHz   | LV | SV | IV | 250/550/600/700/800
  • 900MHz   | LV | SV | IV | 250/550/700/800/900
  • 1000MHz | LV | SV | IV | 250/550/800/900/1000
  • 1100MHz | LV | SV | IV | 250/550/800/1000/1100
  • 1200MHz | LV | SV | IV | 250/550/800/1000/1200
  • 1250MHz | LV | SV | IV | 250/550/800/1000/1250
  • 1300MHz | LV | SV | IV | 250/550/900/1100/1300

Note:
  • Increased voltage is not available for 600, 700, and 800 MHz due to the fact that you do not need higher than standard voltage for these speeds.
  • If your Droid seems sluggish you may need to use a higher voltage kernel.
  • These work on Froyo and Gingerbread as well as ALL ROMs

  2. Can you update your kernel without clearing anything? I am on .02 already, and on CM7 RC1.

    ReplyDelete
  3. yes, just flash over your rom without wiping anything

  4. Are these cool to run with GPA 16?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but do these work with the stock 2.2 rom?

  6. so far so good. nice work

  7. Hey Peter, nice work! I assume safe for GPA15?

  8. Do we need to flash AutoOverClock again after these?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I assume need to apply autooverclock.zip? Thanks for your hard work Pete!!

  10. Hi dears!
Please help. I have GPA15 on my droid. It is standart kernel, I didn't flash with Droid Kernels V0.2. Now i like Peters 800MHz LV Droid Kernels V0.3! I hope it is helpfull for battery. So what shell I do: I have to download 800MHz LV Droid Kernels V0.3 zip file, rename it as update.zip, copy to sd and flash it right? Do I need autooverclock.zip, rename it as update.zip and flash it first?
    Thank you!
    With love from Uzbekistan.

  11. Well I attempted the 1.3 kernel and my phonne barely ran. Flashed back to 1.2 v2 and it ran fine what am I doing wrong

  12. Hey Peter, you do awesome work. But could perhaps you link to some explanation of why one might choose LV/HV etc?

I don't mind spending time to understand this stuff, but there's an awful lot of crap out there on the internet. It would be reassuring to have an explanation that's vouched for by someone who knows what's up!

    Thanks!

  13. Do these work for the GPA16 betas ?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I already tried the 1ghz lv on gpa16 beta, lgb 2.1, ss 5.4, and cm 7.1 RC and it was awesome on all of them. Best kernel I've used and I've tried them all.

  15. @Anonymous, you aren't doing anything wrong, some phones cant handle certain voltages or clock speeds, I cant run 1.3GHz either :( Use these over the V0.2 and V0.1 kernels though.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Installed 1.3GHz LV on GPA15, running fine.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Im using 1ghz LV on GPA15 and it runs great Pete! Smoother than the last kernel. Nice job!

  18. I had to re-flash Recovery in ROM Manager, for some reason recovery wasn't working at all. Installed the 1.2LV but downgraded back to 1.0LV, guess my specific CPU can't handle 1.2 @ low voltage (and I'd rather have the battery life than a small upgrade in max speed.)
Thanks, great work, can't wait for GPA16!

  19. running 1.3LV on GPA15 smoothly. hope GPA16 is even better!

  20. WOW. Thanks Pete! These kernels are running BUTTER SMOOTH on my phone. I'm currently using 1.2SV on your GPA15 build! And now to answer the noob questions....
Okay, you DO NOT need to erase data/cache...etc. Simply download the kernel and put it on the root (not inside of any folders) of your sd card, do the same with the autoverclock.zip. DO NOT UNZIP THE FILES. Reboot into recovery mode. Choose "install zip from sd card" then choose "pick zip from sd card". scroll down and choose the kernel of your choice and install it. Then do the same with the autoverclock.zip. Reboot phone and enjoy the butter smoothness of Pete's hard work!

  21. Can someone explain how SV vs LV impacts "sluggishness"?

I had been using the 1.0GHz LV hoping to save battery, but after awhile it feels like the phone chunks out and it takes 5-10 seconds to 'wake up' before it goes back to normal.

Will switching to a SV kernel make a difference? Or am I better off just going to a 1.1GHz or 1.2GHz kernel?

  22. Peter,

I have an extended battery so I'm not worried about battery consumption. Would an increased voltage kernel mean an increased performance in any way? Just wondering.

  23. @Mike, its like a lawnmower trying to run on fumes rather than a full tank of gas, its not getting the supply it needs to run properly but it will still chug along.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks Peter.

One last question, what exactly does the "AutoOverclock.zip" do? While I trust it... just curious why it needs to be ran every time after changing to a different kernel?

    ReplyDelete
  25. After a day on this kernel using the 1250 LV phone is running much smoother than on 0.2 can't wait for GPA16 keep up the great work

  26. Great work Pete, many years spent working in IT, I decided it was time to root and update since moto and vzw aren't. i'm no programmer tho, your ROMS are great, keep up the great work. i am anticipating the droid 3, but with a rooted droid 1, who needs anything else

    ReplyDelete
  27. Using 1.2 Low Voltage Version 3 and GPA 15. Like butter. Thanks Peter. Looking forward to GPA16 if it beats the Droid 3 release :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks for these. Was getting concerned, my OG was running really slow but I put this newest 800 LV on and it's back to smooth operations! Keep up the great work! Looking forward to GPA16!

  29. Thank you good sir. These are amazing.

  30. AWESOME. so i was using a 1200mhz LV kernel on GPA14 and everything was ok but when I went to GPA15 with the .2 kernel everything went SUPER SLOOOOOOOOOW from time to time. i was getting fed up with performance and it dawned on me that using an LV kernel was probably sapping my power.

I am now running 1000mhz SV (standard voltage) and I'm humming like a hummingbird again on GPA15.

for all those trying to get more battery life, just buy another battery online. genuine BP6X is like 5 bucks, i've never been able to replace a battery for that cheap in any of my devices before

  31. Great, thanks! 1.0G LV with GPA15.

@mike, you don't need to keep re-installing AutoOverclock.zip unless the new kernel package overwrites a specific file. This does not happen with the v3 kernel package from Peter.

  32. Thanks Pete! I have recently experimented with the 1ghz kernel all the way up to 1.3ghz. The best setup so far is the 1.25ghz lv with gpa15. It is by far the best experience even with my power hungry and memory demanding HD games and very responsive to everything else including downloads and SD/CPU use. Very stable and no lag/crashes. Simply amazing.

A few questions. Will there be an official post to GPA 16 beta with any other info than just the changelog? Was it fun to move up another update and work on 2.3.4? And will we ever get to see honeycomb on our OG Droids? Bc if anything, I know you can make that happen.

As always, continue being perfectionately awesome!

  33. Thank you so much Pete! AWESOME!!!!!! Sending you a donation tomorrow!!!

  34. Long time BB / GPA user, but recently I had swapped to CM7 just to see how the other half lives. After seeing the new kernel was out, I swapped back to GPA16 beta with a 1gz LV kernel... So smooth. You can REALLY see just how good Pete's ROMs / kernels are after testing some others! Great work.

  35. Awesome job Pete! 1166 on quadrant. Beat the droidX for the first time. 1gz gonna test more. Have to push this Droid 1 to it's limits.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 1643 on quadrant with a 1.1ghz SV kernel...I wonder of i put the 1.25 ghz if i can get it to 1800

  37. Great Job, thanks for all your work. Running 1 ghz LV on GPA15

  38. Pete, what do you mean by "unneeded features" and "most popular, requested modules and features"?

  39. This was my first time modifying my phone in any way. Your work is wonderful. My phone is now running just as fast as the day I bought it again. Thanks for your hard work. When I come by a little extra cash I will be sure to donate.

  40. Using No Frills CPU to overclock...which I/O scheduler is preferred? NOOP or Deadline? thanks...I'm noob

  41. was wondering if this would work with CWM 3. the kernel is the only thing i flash that is not supported right now.

  42. just sold my droid...it will always be with me in heart. now i have the droid x, but ill still be checking out this website just because of its AWESOMENESSS!!!!

  43. Amazing, just amazing, 100% better than .2 as far as responsiveness, running 1ghz LV. Just donated for the first time, totally worth it, please keep up the good work.

    ReplyDelete
  44. such a noob post...but once you flash this kernel...can you have setcpu change the speed or does it only stay overclocked....sorry guys, but im really confused! lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. I've never flashed a custom kernel before, so all I really want to know is how do I get back to the stock kernel if I want to down the line?

Btw, from a UCF alum, GPA16 is great work, Peter. I just switched from CM7.0.3 and come payday you're definitely getting a donation from me.

  46. Someboy please help me , I have a samsung intercept and my phone is TERRIBLY slow can someone give me advice on witch to download and how can I speed up my phone please, I'm new to the android world.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks for the hard work Peter. I'm using your GPA16 build on my Droid and recently OC'ed but was getting frustrated with the seemingly poor response from the phone. Then I remembered your IV kernels, flashed the 900 mHz IV kernel and it's a world of difference. Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Should we still use these kernels in GPA16? The GPA16 changelog mentions ad hoc networking, but the native "WiFi hotspot" that Quick Settings can turn on still doesn't work with a 0.3 kernel on GPA16.

Should we just stick with the July 8 800MHz kernel from GPA16 until new kernels are released?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I've got a Moto D1 running GPA 16. and want to try a new kernel of yours. i had the 1 GHz with GPA 15 and worked great. but wanna try a little higher. but in the past, every time i go above GHz when the phone boots up, it loads the app drawer and restarts. happens continuously until the battery dies. i was wondering if there was a fix to that. or if i need a different voltage (i was using low before) or if i just cant use anything higher. Thanks

  50. Peter... You my friend... ARE A GENIUS!!!
Thank you so much... I flashed the LV 1250 and my Droid... BAM!!! It rocks!!!
    Thanks again...

  51. Pete,

    question...

how does one tell which version of the kernel is installed when reviewing the about phone kernel section?

I know we should know what we flashed (keep track, etc.) but, we different release series (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 from Pete), as well as different speed sets, as well as different voltage sets.

I have been working with 0.3, SV, 1.1GHZ. Just flashed the IV version of this, not sure if it took, not sure how I would tell.

    My Kernel version shows: 2.6.32.9-Peteralfonso root@pete #39

Thank you for all of your work with this.

  52. Thanks for the IV roms! My droid never ran well on LV or SV overclocked roms!

  53. Peter Alfonso's custom modified kernels are so stable...they just wont POP! 1.2GHz SV running amazingly....and good batter life still.

  54. Do these kernels work with the cyanogen nightlies (2.3.5) ?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Is there any difference running the 1000 LV kernal at 800, and the 800 LV kernal at max?

The reason is I may experiement with different settings but don't want to flash every time...

    Thanks!!

  56. Are these kernels only for the og DROID or can I use one on my DROID 3? Will it brick my phone if I try?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Loaded the GPA18 ROM on my OG Droid. Was actually pretty slow. (Hanging a lot). Then I changed the kernel to the 1100MHz standard voltage. WOW! Best performance I've ever seen. Even better than when brand new with no apps to slow things down. Totally stoked. May even try something faster (or a LV version, depending on how this SV affects battery life).

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just wanted to say running LV 1200mhz on CyanogenMod7 and it works flawless. thanks pete. im testing CM but im BB to the bone!

  59. Pete, these rock! Keep it up, $$ on its way.

  60. does this kernel support swap or apps2ext?

  61. After a brief jaunt down DroidX lane, I am back to my OG Droid. Got the girlfriend the new Galaxy SIII, so I could be using the DroidX with much bigger and nicer screen, but I'm sticking with this running 1.1 SV on GPA19.
