Bugless Beast 4.1.X Jelly Bean

Bugless Beast Jelly Bean builds are now available for select devices and coming to more soon! The builds are based on the latest source with slight modification as I see fit. Rather than write a long post about the builds, I will use this article as a live changelog and provide the download links. As a side note, be sure to flash the latest radio and bootloader available on my downloads page.

    This was my first time flashing Bugless Beast and I'll never go back. Been on the 7/13 and couldn't be more impressed. Stable and slick. Excellent job and can't wait for the next updates!

      You can't flash a bootloader to my knowledge, but you can unlock it which is necessary if you want to root and ROM. You can however flash a recovery such as clockworkmod from ROM manager but you need root access to use ROM Manager.

      You most definitely can flash a bootloader. In fact, a new bootloader is flashed with nearly every official update and if you're flashing custom roms you should keep up with flashing these yourself along with the updated baseband firmware. I'm currently using Jake's Jellybean bootloader that can be found here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/28677-rom-jelly-belly-v38-07192012-jellybean-411-pure-aosp-its-all-about-speed/ . It was pulled from the Jellybean update on the GSM GNex I think. It's advertised as booting Jellybean faster than the ICS bootloaders but I can't tell a difference.

      I used the Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit to Backup, Unlock and Root. I seriously was lost without that freaking thing.
      Just randomly tossing it out there for other noobies who haven't dealt with rooting in a while.

      I would prefer the stock browser from ICS as well. In the Jelly Bean AOSP Chrome is the new stock browser. But for the Galaxy Nexus, Google is going to keep the original stock browser from ICS in there code.

    I am going to give this a whirl. It will be my third ROM. Could someone clarify this statement:

    "As a side note, be sure to flash the latest radio and bootloader available on my downloads page."

    Where exactly is the latest radio and bootloader on that page? I have already flashed the latest JB Bootloader when I installed a different ROM, where is the link to the latest radio?

      The downloads page for each handset provides the stock items like radio, bootloader, and even the OTAs. Then you pop over to the ROM page to grab Pete's actual work.

      Pete has been the man since OG D1. Keep up the great work

      i let it sit there for 20+ minutes, first boot usually isn't that long. i used to use GPAxx on my OG droid.

      got it too work, i think it was my recovery not working proprely and thus not installing correctly. my CWM recovery would never stay/remain permantently. i finally got CWM touch installed and it seems to have taken permanently and 4.1.1 booted in about 2-3 minutes, amazingly fast. very happy with the visual evolution. can't find wifi tethering but i'm still looking.

      The native Android Wi-Fi hotspot that is included in the ROM works. (Settings > Wireless & networks (More...) > Tethering & portable hotspot.

    Honestly, some of this stuff, like the scrolling fix that disables the scrolling cache when making flings, is incredibly simple stuff that would've made the OS better with no performance cost. I think you should submit this to AOSP and Cyanogenmod - Maybe we can see it in 4.1.2 or Cyanogenmod 10? I know it's not exactly "pure" AOSP, but it has the look and feel of AOSP with improvements that should've been there anyway, with no real drawbacks. I didn't like Chrome, but swapping the browser in the zip was easy enough for me, and I think I just found my new daily driver for JB :-)

    Quick (possibly stupid) question....
    Can I flash the 7-14 nightly over the 7-9 with just wiping dalvik and cache?
    I have never dirty flashed, but I don't have time for the 2 hours it takes getting my phone all set back up.

      I dirty flased from 7-9 to 7-13, then 7-13 to 7-14 and I haven't noticed any problems yet.

      I had the same question myself before, but Pete tweeted that all that needs wiped is the dalvik cache if if simply flashing a newer nightly.

    Glad to be back! Was using BB with my OG droid back in the day lol. Then got a nexus and thought I was fine with not rooting but I got impatient with Google, and I jumped back to BB as soon as I heard Pete made a jelly bean rom :)

    2. I did not flash the radio or bootloader (saw the note after the fact), but my radio appears to be the latest as far as I can tell by checking About phone > Baseband version. What is the benefit/reason to flash the latest bootloader from the downloads page? Can I tell if I already have the latest installed (how)?

    P.S. This is all on a VZW GNex and I was previously running latest stock, rooted, ICS.

      Wireless tether works fine. I've tethered a lot using Pete's rom without any issues.

      The only tethering app i found that works with his rom is from SVTP. But I'd rather not pay $15 for that app.

      I have a similar concern about getting charged but I think Pete patched it so using the tethering option from the settings menu is free and VZw will not see it on the records. Can someone confirm that?

    I've been using BB for my main ROM of choice since Droid 1. Petes ROMs are aways the smoothest ROM in town. I really like a rooted stock experience, however, I tweak some things to suit my own taste... First I disable Chrome (I don't like it on my GNex or my other devices). Then I add the Stock Android Browser apk, and enable Flash... Until HTML 5 is on every site, I must have Flash!!

    I also customize the bland soft keys. I like Blue (Back-Home-Recent +MENU) soft keys, and modify the stock battery with 1% increments. There are a couple other small tweaks I use, but that's what Android is all about. ;)

      I use Cisco AnyConnect rooted and it works great for me. The built in VPN was always spotty for me with IPSec/Xauth PSK.

    Like so many people, I also love the stock Jelly Bean browser. I found a way to get it back on Bugless Beast but the problem I'm having is that the browser won't sync my Chrome bookmarks. I don't want to use Chrome browser or ICS Browser+. I just want a fully functional stock Jelly Bean browser. Any ideas?

      I have the same question! I have 7-12 build flashed initially, and now im looking to flash 7-19 assuming 7-13,7-14 etc are incorporated in 7-19. Does that make sense?

      I usually just Wipe Dalvik and then flash it. If I run into issues I Wipe Data and Dalvik and re-flash, although I have never had an issue with any of Pete's nightlies.

    pete you were a life saver with my original droid. I just flashed jelly bean on my Vzw galaxy nexus. this is incredible! Thank you for your hard work and I look forward to what the future brings. One oddthing that I've noticed when I use google now and I am on wifi it completely loses track of where I am and always gives me the wrong location. Know anything about that being a common issue? I'm in the us so I figured I wouldn't run into that.

    If I already have the IMM76K radios from my latest 4.0.4 updated, will I still have to flash them along with the JB bootloader and ROM? Do the radios get reset to older versions otherwise?

    Also, does this ROM include gapps or do I need to flash those on separately?

      No new radios as far as I know. Gapps are included. I was on 4.0.4 radios and just flashed with no problems. Be careful if you are using the touch version of cwm as some people have had problems flashing jb roms with it.

      If it doesn't boot within a minute or so, you probably want to try a battery pull. That has worked for me.

      Flash the file as Pete wrote it. Do a full wipe first. Afterwards you will have current radios and bootloader.

    Add me to the list asking for the stock browser as well as chrome. A site I use daily to check train schedules and times renders almost unreadable in Chrome. Browser Preference aside I simply can not use chrome.

    I know that according to the change log, the volume of GNex (Verizon) was supposed to be louder. I have no problem with the call volumes, but the ring tones are so low, I have missed more than a few important calls.
    Am I the only one with this issue?

    Flashed ICS for toroplus the day you released it for Galaxy Nexus... all other ROMs are now unacceptable to me. Can't wait till the Jelly Bean release of BB for toroplus.

    Great ROM! I sent a few $$ your way to support your work.

    ROM is clean stable and everything seems to work. The first couple of times I rebooted it took about 5 min to reboot. Now it reboots in less than 1 minute....

    Google voice search takes a while but seems to work...

    Dude, you are the freaking man! Got me running your Jul14 rom on my Vz Gnex and my wife's. She knows nothing about how good it is except for free tethering but I am definitely loving it. Thanks and please don't stop putting out awesome software

    always liked petes roms even with my old droid1 it ran BB gbread with ease now on my gnex i use this with lean kernel get great battery life works flawlessly

    Does toro_2012-08-03 include the latest radio code that was released on 2012-08-02?

    Also what version is it JRO03H or JRO03C?

      7-24 uses 03H so I'm assuming he would use the same for 8-02 and not go backwards

    Simply amazing.
    My Samsung Galaxy Nexus was already rooted, BB didn't break my root.
    Installed ROM Manager and flashed ClockWorkMod recovery, which installed fine.
    Was able to load the 3 files fine.
    Everything is smooth. BB well-deserves its name.
    The Wallet app works GREAT - tested today and everything worked.
    Overall, I am EXTREMELY satisfied with BB.
