Sprint shouldn't have blocked tethering, enough said. This patch will restore the 3G tethering ability you had in Android 2.3.4 on your Nexus S 4G.
Download and flash in clockworkmod recovery manually or automatically via
ROM Manager.
Update: I have submitted this
patch to CyanogenMod so tethering will work in these builds too.
Awesome man, thanx for getting the native app going again on 2.3.5 ;)
ReplyDeletethx so much.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much working great with 5.5 matr1x kernel and stock everything else other than root.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Awesome work once again!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot! Happy I was able to find your site.
ReplyDeleteGreat how do I load it?
ReplyDeleteDo I need to be rooted to have this work? And if so how does one load this into my Nexus S///sorry newbie to all this.
ReplyDeleteCan you explain how this works a little bit?
ReplyDeleteI was stock and let 2.3.5 install. That disabled tethering, as you know. I tried flashing CM7 and I still had no wifi tether. I flashed your fix on CM7 and it didn't help so I went back to stock and your fix works like a charm!
What does it do exactly?
Thank you so much. I'm just knowledgeable enough about these things to get myself into trouble, but I figured out how to get this going without too much trouble -- thanks for making it easy for me.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Works great. My nexus s works how it should again.
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you thank you! I had rooted my phone with the one click root found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096384 but I couldn't get the wifi tethering to work. For those needing some further instructions, to get this wifi fix to work, I installed "ROM Manager" (link above) from the android market, downloaded the fix above, copied it to my device via USB and used ROM Manager to "install ROM from SD". Worked like a charm!
ReplyDeleteI get 3 options when clicking install ROM from SD, which one should i choose? And which file out of the two should i install?
ReplyDeleteso do we need to root?
ReplyDeleteI love you. No homo... but seriously thanks for the patch! ive been trying to use the wireless tether app on my xoom but the xoom doesn't support ad-hoc. thanks again! :D
ReplyDeleteI am completely new to Android world. Could you please give me more detailed instructions on how to install this package? Should I copy the whole zip file to the directory on the phone itself and then I opened ROM Manager, then choose install ROM from SD Card. Then I went to the directory where I copied CRESPO4GTETHERFIX.zip file, choose this file. It poped up the message Reboot and Install. I clieck OK. It rebooted the phone and then seemd like it started to unpack the package and then I got ginger bread guy with a warning sign and it's where it stopped. What am I doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteWorks great, thanks so much for this!
ReplyDeleteWhere can we get an ATT Nexus S tethering fix? :D
ReplyDeleteThis worked like a charm. Wish it's let me tether at 4G though....
ReplyDeletehi, more information about the patch please, how install in a Cyangenmod7?
ReplyDeletethis worked for me too...im not even worried about modding anything else on my phone anymore...big thx!
ReplyDeleteI see Sprint is pushing out the 2.3.7 right now. I have already rooted and applied your patch. Has anyone updated to 2.3.7? Should I Unroot before updating to 2.3.7 and then is there a need to reapply the patch. Any one have some input?
ReplyDeleteWorked just fine for me. I was running stock 2.3.5, unlocked, rooted, with crespo4gtetherfix installed. My only issue was with clockwork recovery - couldn't flash it from the rom manager tool, had to go through adb from my PC. I re-applied superuser.zip and crespo4gtetherfix.zip from clockwork after that and all was good.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your efforts. Got the .zip to install perfectly.
ReplyDeleteMy Nexus S 4G now provides a wireless connection for my HP Touchpad:D
will this erase anything on my phone. Do I need to back everything up or is this just a patch?
ReplyDeleteIs there a fix for a Nexus S NOT rooted?
ReplyDeleteI used your fix for my Sprint Nexus S 4G after upgrade to Android 2.3.5. Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteNow I see Sprint pushing 2.3.7 upgrade. Will this fix work for 2.3.7?
Thanks again
Yes, it will work for 2.3.7. You can try one of my ROMs, it has the fix already included in it: http://download.peteralfonso.com/crespo4g/rom
DeleteThank you! Works great. My nexus s works how it should again.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Just FYI, this also works on the ICS derived Cyanogenmod 9.0.0-RC1. Looks like it got reverted in the latest ICS...
