Download: Motorola Droid Update (Official) FRK76

When the community heard news that Motorola would be pushing yet another update to the OG Motorola Droid, minds began to race, would they really officially update to Gingerbread!? About a week and a half later, we we disappointed to hear that this update would only bring a few "security patches" to the device. After diffing the previous official build to the new FRK76 build, no proprietaries had been modified. So what does this mean to you, as a rooted user running the latest version of Bugless Beast? Absolutely nothing, Gingerbread is most likely more secure than Froyo will ever be so there is no reason to downgrade. This news is just as disappointing to developers because it means nothing new can be pulled from this update to be used in a source build. In my opinion, this small 761 KB patch of an update is simply a way of Motorola saying "Hey you OG Droid user, please don't use your upgrade on a Galaxy Nexus". Interestingly enough, Motorola even decided to call this update "Android 2.2.3", which I do not believe even officially exist at AOSP.

None the less, thanks to a few naughty Motorola Feedback Network testers, you can find the OTA update as well as a full stock, rooted ROM of FRK76 at my download page before it is officially available to all.

Official support thread can be found at RootzWiki to discuss.

UPDATE: Android 2.2.3 does exist, it was just pushed to AOSP. More info here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-building/MuwZk1iY_Sk

  2. I don't care about any Motorola update honestly. Your latest Bugless Beast for the OG Droid works great.

Do you know yet if you're going to be able to create a ICS Rom for the Droid. That would be awesome.

  4. AOSP 2.2.3 would be nice , looks as though the GNex is going to be delayed .

  5. Current BB is outstanding. My OGD has never ran so well. The only downside is I can't justify buying a new phone. At this point any update motorola would put out would be a giant step backwards. Thanks for all the hard work.

  9. Pete. How can we encourage you to port your work to the HTC ADR6350 AKA Droid Incredible 2? I can beta test for you and I can send you my old OG Droid as incentive :P

  10. Pete: thanks a million for doing this. I'm a long-time lurker and have learned a lot from you and your users.

that said, i'm also a bit of a minimalist and i've had a ton of problems getting your GPA and other builds to work well on my OGDroid. the newer google apps (and other demanding ones like FB) completely bog my device down. the best solution i've found is to use a simple stock+root ROM and add just a handful of apps that allow me to push performance.

so thanks again for putting out a simple ROM.

  12. At work and thought I'd check your site. I guess things have pretty much come to an end for the OG Droid. I stil have mine though, but only because I'm transfering out of country so no need to go with a new device. It's been fun using your ROMs though. I enjoyed the anticipation of all your new work. Thanks for everything and good luck to you.

  14. Pete:
Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication. My OG Droid and I appreciate it very much. GPA19 has been a godsend, allowing me to hold out for a new Droid 4. I just wanted to know if you had any plans to release an ics rom for the OG Droid. If so what might be a time table for that release? Again thank you for your hard work and support against obsolescence.
